What's the most interesting car you saw today?

Nothing too special here, these old Volvos just remind me of being a kid. There were so many of them on the road in the 80’s/90’s

I only grabbed this video because I don’t think I’ve ever seen grill lights like that.

Here’s a picture of the Ford Crestline from the Thursday.

A fun car in 1992-1998 was the Honda Del Sol.

Successor to the Honda CR-X of 1983-1991, the Del Sol had a removable, hard targa top, as shown on the red one from a web photo. Back then, the CR-X and Del Sol were fun cars from Honda while also delivering very good fuel economy. My first car had a targa top, and that was versatile and fun (the blue 1979 X1/9 — last photo).

I understand why you don’t drive it. But as it’s been said, “Every person before they die needs to experience driving a 12 cylinder car.”

Personally, I have not had that experience. At least not yet!

1952 side trim.

A Dodge Viper. Haven’t seen a Viper in what seems like years. This one was black, which is even more rare than the usual red. Over the years I’ve seen them in red, blue, yellow, and black.

Hmmm, according to this paint guide they are also available in orange, slate, purple, and silver. I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen any of those colors.

Last week I followed a Mitsubishi Delica with Canadian plates for a few miles through Bellingham. I think all Delicas are RHD. At least, I’ve never seen a LHD one. Delicas are rare enough to take notice, but seen frequently enough not to be surprised.

Your Wikipedia link says they were sold new in the US in small numbers from 1987-90. I would assume the US market ones would have had to be LHD.

A couple of interesting cars from last week in Joshua Tree, CA

And finally, whatever this began life as it’s pretty cool now. It looks like a lifesize version of a Matchbox car.

More from this vacation to come shortly.

Unless they were used by mail carriers. I lived in L.A. when the U.S. ones were imported, and I never saw any in that car-centric area.

Wikipedia actually has a picture of one of the US market ones. I just took a closer look at it, and it is clearly LHD.

Boonie Bug. Too funny. It’s a 1970s kit car. Never heard of them, let alone ever saw one. Maybe they’re down in LA or Orange County.

Thanks for that! Did you know what it was or do an image search? It’s a cool find.

There’s one and a couple of its relatives in Total Recall.

Google helped, yeah.

Saw this one today. As usual, showed the picture to my dad and I watched him spend a few seconds mumbling, to himself, the various differences from year to year and settled on a 61 Impala.
Also, it had some kind of lift kit on it. The rear end lifted back up to a normal ride height as it drove out of the lot.

Right!

Yesterday on the commute home, I saw an early 1980s Volkswagen Rabbit pickup truck. Obviously someone’s daily commuter car, very scrappy looking.

Similar to this:

Reading the article, I didn’t realize they were front-wheel drive. I’m guessing the diesel engine is relatively easy to maintain, so not too surprising it could still be running in SoCal.

I always liked the Rabbit-based pickup, which shares engine & drivetrain with the Rabbit.

Durable, too. Dad’s diesel Rabbit had over 750K on it when he sold it to a coworker.
