What's the most interesting car you saw today?

Very close to the same height and width, the Mustang is longer (181" vs 154"). Mustang is just a little taller (3") and a few 100 lbs heavier.

On Route 66 in Grants, New Mexico today: a sort of hot rod/steampunk tow truck thingy

It’s Mater come to real life!

On the way home from my Sunrise Mall excursion, I passed a 1970s Dodge camper van headed in the opposite direction. Think Uncle Rico’s van from Napoleon Dynamite, with that high top. This one wasn’t orange, though; it had a faded red and white two tone scheme.

It’s Back to the Fifties weekend in St. Paul. Lots and lots of beautiful cars.

That thing is badass. I like the unevenly worn front tires, nice touch.

I thought this was just going to be a regular half and half paint job. It was not…

I wanted to get a picture of the brake lights, but he was going 5 under the limit and I couldn’t justify staying behind him until the next light.

This looked like a nice little Corvette. The camera has a bit of a fisheye effect and made it look a bit shorter than it was.

Even the frame is painted.

They painted over every other letter in TOYOTA, so it reads T Y T. Do the letters TYT have any significance? I’ve seen TOY, and YO, but I think this is the first time I’ve seen this particular combination.

And don’t forget about OYO and TOY[picture of yoda].

The mention of Volvo in the EV thread reminded me that I saw a Volvo EV last week and forgot to mention it in this thread. I think it was a CX40 Recharge. The lack of a grille was a dead giveaway that it was an EV, and I have to say the trademark Volvo diagonal bar through the grille looks kind of weird when there isn’t an actual grille.

Two weeks ago I saw the same car, and made the same observation about the grill in this thread.

A few days ago it was the weed Corvette. Today it’s the weed delivering bus.

Today the most interesting car I saw was the Monkees car, the Monkeemobile. The Monkeemobile is a modified Pontiac GTO that was designed and built by designer Dean Jeffries for The Monkees TV show (1966-1968).

Yes it’s a toy but it was interesting because it reminded me of my youth in the 1960s and 1970s.

I spotted it in western Kentucky at the Apple Valley Hillbilly Garden and Toyland, in Calvert City KY. That place was listed in Atlas Obscura.

So… I’m currently on a roadtrip with my son who’s driving across the USA from San Francisco to LA to Providence RI. He’s 37. I flew to Little Rock AR where he picked me up. In the last four days we’ve driven from Little Rock to Louisville KY, and in those over 500 miles I’ve seen only one Tesla. It was a white model S, with Texas plates.

So far I have not seen any Rivians or Polestars or Lucid Airs. Just the one S. And I have not noticed any fast charging stations either, but truth be told I have not been looking for them.

Anyway, out here in the heart of America the electric car revolution is slow to catch on. Not like where I live, in the SFBA CA, where you see these makes on a daily basis.

The Twin Cities are full of them, but I can understand why they aren’t popular in smaller cities and towns because recharging stations aren’t everywhere yet.

Yesterday I saw a Ferrari 458 Italia. It was a strange not quite white color; totally wrong for the model of car IMO. It looked dirty, but was clean.

1972 BMW 2002.

The owner keeps it in a large quonset hut-like tent on the edge of his property. I had met him a few months ago and asked what was in the tent, assuming it was probably a boat (we’re near the water), and he said it was the 2002.

I had never seen it, though, until we walked by today and he was about to take it for a drive. It’s in great shape. He’s owned it for about seven years and done the restoration work himself. It’s not the original color, but it is an authentic color for the model and year.

That is a beautiful 2002!

As an FYI, I was curious and had to look it up: why is the car called the BMW 2002? Why 2002? Per Wiki it is the “02 Series”, and Beemer has several cars in the series, including the 1502, 1602, and the 1802, among others. The 02 Series preceded the 3 Series. These pics are from the web.
