A friend in high school had a boat tail Riviera. Easy to spot in a parking lot.
A Ferrari SF90 Stradale this morning, in downtown Burlingame CA.
Maybe this is the SF90 XX? I don’t know how to tell. Ferrari’s XX Program means the car has better performance, handling, and brakes and is intended for track use. The XX Program was launched in 2005.
Cost? Starting at about $525,000 and up to $995,000 depending on trim and options, including the XX version.
The Ferrari SF90 comes either as a Stradale or a Spider (coupe or convertible, respectively). It is Ferrari’s first series production PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle): 4.0L V8 turbo, 986 hp, 590 lb-ft torque, 211 mph maximum speed, 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds.
Car and Driver magazine says about this car:
➤ Highs: Insanely quick acceleration, reasonably luxurious cabin, exotic appearance.
➤ Lows: Priced for the gods, no Android Auto, laughably little cargo space.
➤ Verdict: The SF90 and SF90 XX offer earth-shattering performance, but sadly their prices put them out of reach for all but the world’s richest drivers.

That’s what a Ferrari should look like.
Well, in red…
I was out for a walk over the weekend, and spotted a Ford Mustang from the 80s that I thought was interesting. I stopped to take a photo and a guy came out from the porch and yelled at me to move along. I engaged him, saying why I was taking the photo, and he calmed down and we chatted. His car has been broken into twice in his driveway, and I commiserated with him. We talked about cars for a bit, and I thanked him for letting me take the photo, he apologized for yelling at me, and we went our separate ways.
I was thinking about Bullitt’s encounter and was thankful that Charlie was much more reasonable. But I do now think about what could happen.
During my commute yesterday and today, I saw Tesla trucks in four colors: Natural, a flat black, an electric blue wrap & a shiny gold/brass C3PO wrap.
I was behind a Fisker Ocean One in traffic today. It looked good from the back, even if definitely a member of the high waste line CUV (don’t call it a stubby station wagon) club.
I had to lookup the “One” designation, and it means it’s in the first 5000 cars made by Fisker (or in the Ocean line?). I’m not sure Fisker has made more than 5000 cars.
I think the Ocean I saw was even this color.
Spotted these two on the same trip to FL this week. Which is uglier? You decide.
I also saw (no pictures) a Hummer EV pickup and SUV, which are also fairly bizarre choices.
On my walk tonight I spotted a car that I really had no idea what it was, and my only view was from the back of a long driveway. I zoomed in on the badge on my computer and figured out it’s a 1962 Plymouth Valiant 4 door. But it looks like there were a bunch of trim levels, and this one didn’t have the faux Continental spare tire. It looks like that rectangular “Valiant” badge only was on the 1962 models.
Today when test driving a new car we drove past a house with not one, but two Lamborghini Countach 5000s!
Left my house at Dark (not dark:Thirty, just Dark:00) this morning for training in another state. Get into that state & there’s a vehicle up ahead of me on the interstate cruising along at the speed limit. It’s got bright reflective chevrons on the bumper & less bright but more reflective stuff above that. I immediately recognize this as some type of first responder with the higher / less reflective decals probably being the department name. It might be a fire chief’s vehicle or it might be a cop car but I slow down to match it’s speed cause I’m too smart to roll up on a cop in a marked car.
Eventually someone with a bigger set that I’ve got does roll up on him…& passes him. Alright, it must be a FD vehicle so I push on the pedal a bit. As I get closer I recognize the vehicle as a statie…from my state & realize he has no jurisdiction in neighboring state. ::floors it:: No idea where he was going or why so early in the morning.
One of these was in front of me yesterday. I couldn’t get around him to look at if from the front.
(Not my photo):
Apparently this is a Pickman XR. It’s a street legal, low speed, electric vehicle. My impression was that it’s a glorified golf cart, but maybe it’s got a niche.
Another oddball vehicle, this is a chopper style electric bike. I think it’s a Eahora Emars M1P. I think it looks cool but the motorcycle helmet might be a bit much.
I saw a yellow Volkswagen “Thing” on my way to work this morning. This photo from the internet almost certainly isn’t the same one, but it looks identical, apart from that the one I saw had vintage blue California license plates.
Your post reminded me that — hey! I’ve seen one of those before! It was last April in Texas after the eclipse when I saw it and posted it here. This was in Comfort TX, after leaving the eclipse gathering in Kerrville and on our way back to San Antonio.
And here is my post from 09 April.
It was (and still is) the only time I’d ever seen one.
I’ve never seen on of these before- and never want to again:
Yes, the Olds Bravada is very uncommon. I think I’ve only seen 1 or maybe 2, ever. Its cousins the Chevy S-10 Blazer and GMC Jimmy were very common.
