What's the most interesting car you saw today?

Saw this a few minutes ago

And found some additional pictures from where he had the upholstery done.

It’s a converted pick up, as you can probably guess, but I don’t know what it had going on with the engine or exhaust. When I heard it pulling into the lot, I didn’t even glance up as I assumed it was our customer that usually drives a Roadrunner or Super Bee

Yesterday I saw a Cybertruck with a trailer attached, hauling some junk. I guess they’re no different than any other pickup truck, it just looked strange somehow.

I saw some crossover this morning with big Tupperware™ logos plastered across the doors and rear hatch. I’m guessing the owner is a Tupperware sales rep, perhaps on the way to host a Tupperware party. Or maybe not. But it was especially interesting to see that vehicle now, with their recent bankruptcy.

I had a car kinda behind/off to the side of me for a while this morning. In my mirror, in the dark/drizzle, I assumed it was a Mustang. Then I noticed the plate was ALL SHO. I didn’t know they still made/restarted making, the Ford Taurus.

After looking at some pictures, I don’t think I was that far off thinking it was a Mustang. It was the grill I was seeing in my mirrors that gave off Mustang vibes.

72 Gran Torino Cobra

Google is calling this one a 1954 Oldsmobile 88 Rocket

No pictures, but just outside my work parking lot I saw an MV-1 with livery plates, still doing its job.

In the parking lot today, a Toyota GR86, probably the current generation. It’s a sibling car to the Subaru BRZ.

A right-hand drive Honda intended only for Japan, and imported from Japan — a 1990 Honda Today Pochette that is right-hand drive with a manual transmission.

I saw it while on the way to pick up my 356 from the shop, and I was absolutely stumped by it.

I couldn’t figure out what it was, so I went into the nearest shop and was able to find the owner and ask him about it. He let me drive it a bit! So I returned the favor and let him drive the 356. I made a new friend over this random car sighting.

Hi, best friend!!!

I saw the rarest of vehicles today!
It was a Mercedes G-wagon, like so:
https://media.ed.edmunds-media.com/mercedes-benz/g-class/2024/oem/2024_mercedes-benz_g-class_4dr-suv_amg-g-63_fq_oem_1_600.jpg

Now, these are as common as dirt out here, but what made this one so rare was - it was actually outfitted for off-road use! They had a roof rack and side panels, and recovery gear. I don’t think I’ve ever seem one that wasn’t just an over-priced mall crawler before.

Google is giving me a few different options, but I believe, based on the front bumper, it’s a 1960 Lincoln Continental. Unrelated, it had what appeared to be a campaign sign in the back window…for Nixon.

I saw a Checker Marathon cab driving down the street in NYC yesterday; it was a lead vehicle for the marathon so it was the only car on the closed Ave.

These days they’re almost all overpriced mall crawlers! But back in the day, before they were ever exported to the US, they were standard-issue NATO military Jeeps (like), complete with camouflage paint. The first G-wagens I ever saw were those NATO military vehicles, in Europe.

What else do I need?

Yesterday I just happened to bump into this place called Auto Vino in San Carlos. Outside in the parking lot I was admiring two cars, the 1973 Fiat 500 (the “Cinquecento”) and the 2006 Maserati GranSport, and the owner of the place invited me inside to take a look around (it was closed and locked).

Some AMAZING cars were inside, including 3 beautiful Porsche Carrera GTs with their mid-engine V10 engines. The Porsche Carrera GT is a 2-door Targa roadster only produced in 2004-2006. Less than 1,300 were ever manufactured. And this place had THREE of them! The V10 engine has probably the sweetest sound ever of any engine ever made.

At 11:30 on Sunday 11/17 they will be holding their monthly “Cars & Cabernet” event. The owner extended an invitation, and we might just go after church. If we do go, stand by for more pictures!

A winch.

True that but it’s probably there, on the front.

I have a plow truck. I put the winch on the back. Sort of have to. And I would rather get out of trouble, than get deeper into trouble. It’s saved my ass (and other people) a number of times.

I do some light off-roading, and I don’t have a winch, yet. IME most people put their winch on the front, but to me that doesn’t make good sense because when you get stuck you can easily bury that winch into mud, water, rock, tree, etc. Having it on the back is much smarter. As is your strategy. That’s where I’d mount mine, either that or have it hitch mounted and have hitches in front and in back.

Yeah, my only choice was to put it on the back because of the plow. I don’t ‘Off Road’ in that truck though, even with the plow off.

The truck stays chained up on all 4. Short bed Dodge 1500 regular cab. If you get that stuck, you are going to have a very, very bad day. The winch on the back helps with that. Unless you have to go forward. That happened once.
