What's the most interesting car you saw today?

A 1970 (or so) Cadillac Coupe de Ville. Lord that was a big car.

i have been seeing lots of jeeps in those awful 1970s colors…like carmine orange and “Monkey Vomit” green. i thought that these went out because the cadmium-based pigments were too toxic.
Hope this trend doesn’t spread.

See, I like the fact that cars look like my Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars did when I was a kid…

A new ‘vette showed up outside my next-door neighbors’ house today. Friends are in town for a funeral (bummer) but this is the car they showed up in. As I was out mowing my front lawn and drooling over it, I noticed I wasn’t the only one looking. No less than three cars slowed down to ogle, with at least one taking pics with his phone and then a phalanx of children appeared to ride their bikes, trikes, and skateboards right next to the car, hoping to beg for a ride.

A Pontiac G3 (rebadged Aveo), a car I never knew existed.

It was an interesting afternoon. In a span of 5 minutes I saw a 1968 Rambler American 440 sedan, and then a BMW i8. The i8 was the second I’ve ever seen out there. And then I saw anothe BMW i3, but there are plenty on the roads around here.

I also saw a new Porsche 911 Targa, the first I’ve seen on the road. I wonder if they’ll catch on - a few years ago I’d regularly see Porsche Boxster Spyders, but now they’re all gone.

Then on the way home tonight I saw a 1971 Chevelle Malibu SS.

Yesterday on Lansdowne St, I saw a Mercedes G-Wagen. Semi-unusual, but not unknown in Ontario… but the really unusual thing about this one was the license plates.

As I saw it approaching, I noticed a European-style plate that was yellow with black characters. Usually when I see one of these, the rear plate turns out to be from Québec, as Québec is a rear-plate-only jurisdiction, and you can put anything you want on the front.

But the G-Wagen passed, and I saw that the rear plate was also European. I have never seen a European-registered car here in Southern Ontario; the most exotic plates I’ve seen are from Mexico and Hawaii. Was this a case of someone shipping their European car over for a holiday?

It occurs to me that the G-Wagen might have been from St Pierre et Miquélon, the French possession off Newfoundland, but that seems unlikely.

A good morning commute.

First, an International Scout II, probably mid-70’s vintage. Looked like a work truck, it was outfitted with carrying bars for ladders etc.

Then a huge old Chevy with tailfins. I didn’t catch the model and I’m not familiar with that era of cars but a google search turns up a late 50’s or early 60’s Impala as a candidate. Maybe I misread the badge and it was another make. But it was clearly from the tailfin era and it was a huge 4 door.

Finally, just before turning into the office a mid-60’s MG Midget, probably getting in a few more commutes with the top down before the weather gets too cold.

Heads up, guys. Sunday 9/20 is DY356 Day: Drive Your Porsche 356 Day. You might see some of our bathtubs out there!

Jalopnik announced that Janis Joplin’s 356e Cabriolet is for sale. It would be awesome to see that tooling down the road.

It would be hard to miss:

My 356 guy now tells me that the Drive Your 356 Day is in its 20th year and has been expanded to Drive Your Porsche Day. So you might see a few out there on Sunday.

I saw what I think was a 1959 or 1960 Plymouth Fury for sale in a gas station parking lot. Big tail fins.

Two cool cars, a 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger, and a 1958 Corvette.

I don’t count the twin 1959 Edsels, 1966 Toronado, and 1964 (I think) Imperial I see rotting away in various yards around here as all that special, since I see them every day. Nor do I consider my neighbors fully restored 1958 Ford Skyliner, since I see it almost every day.

Christine?

Did the radio still work (loved that closing scene)

There must be a Ferrari farm around here. Saw the, in my opinion, ugly FF this morning.
Last night saw a pretty beat up 69 Impala parked at the gym. Looked like someone’s project.

Downtown Palo Alto, University Avenue, around 11am: BMW 2002tii, ivory, with two black stripes.

Very nice.

Yesterday, Palo Alto again, an early 60s (1st gen) Chevy Corvair sedan in ivory.

A Bentley Continental Convertible, looking stylish and chic.

I saw an Edsel station wagon today. White top with medium green bottom. There was a car show today in my town so he may have ended up there. Looked to be in very nice condition.

A Morgan Three-Wheeler in full RAF livery; it was so ridiculously awesome that I laughed out loud from joy at seeing it. Forget McLarens, or Lamborghinis; if you want attention, drive one of these.
