What's the most interesting car you saw today?

Today I saw two cool German cars:

  1. A classic 1960s-70s era Porsche 911 being towed on a trailer.
  2. A VW Westphalia Synchro, the rare 4 wheel drive version of the iconic Westphalia camper van.

A 15-pax van, on a flatbed tow truck. It was from “Dependable Transit”

In terms of interesting cars, I saw a mid-1960s Plymouth Valiant this morning. It was towing one of those trailers made out of an old pickup bed. The trailer looked almost comically large compared to the car.

In other news, I noticed my first two 9Y California license plates in traffic today. Coincidentally both vehicles were right next to each other in adjacent lanes when I saw them. One was on a Kia Telluride, the other on a Civic.

“We’ll get you there even if we have to put the van on a truck!”

At the Lincoln dealership, a nice looking Saturn Sky.

Last weekend I drove south to San Luis Obispo for the weekend and saw:

⏵ VW Rabbit pickup
⏵ Saab 900 convertible
⏵ 1968 Karmann Ghia
⏵ 1967 Chevrolet Corvette
⏵ Volkswagen DoKa (VW Type 2 Doppelkabine Microbus)
⏵ 1954 MG TF
⏵ Shelby Cobra
⏵ 1947 Ford Super DeLuxe convertible (“wax on, wax off” Karate Kid car [Ralph Macchio still owns his])
⏵ 1972 Ford Mustang salvaged body on a trailer on its way to being restored — it’s nice to see older cars going to live on for more miles and smiles
⏵ 1964 Jaguar XK-E
⏵ 1970 Chevelle SS 502
⏵ Triumph TR6
⏵ Datsun 280ZX

Here are my pics of these cars.

And then today I saw a bright yellow 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger. But no pic of that one.

Today I saw 9YOJ689. California is running out of plates in this serial format!

A lot of people in California seem to be buying cars just before moving to Tennessee. I’ve seen a couple of 9X---- plates here.

I clicked your link and get the message “the requested page can’t be found”

I have a weakness. For early E-Types. I’ve almost bought one a few times. My tiny garage really puts a tight leash on my purchasing ambitions.

I still miss my Karmann-Ghia. It was hot and unreliable, but I still loved it.

Sounds like an ex-GF of mine.

I saw a white Subie Solterra Limited from the side while it was nose in parked in a parking lot. What a freakin’ awful design. The huge amount of black plastic over the wheel wells that extended up to the front bumper made it look like it was in an accident & missing a front quarter panel from a distance. It wasn’t until I walked closer to it that I realized it was fine & just had a horrible design of waaay too much black plastic there. I also saw a white one w/o the black & it looked okay.

Followed the wiener mobile, for a couple miles, in Asheville last weekend

Here it is

Added: I think @Skywatcher fixed it also.

I had to Google that. Yeah, that is one fugly design choice. However, istm that most SUV’s nowadays – and most vehicles sold are some version of an suv or “crossover” – look almost identical. Maybe Subaru decided the only way to make this thing stand out was to give it ugly body panels.

Speaking of Subaru, yesterday I saw an Outback Wilderness Edition in a parking lot. What impressed me was the ground clearance: it looked significant. Google tells me that it comes from the factory with 9.5" of ground clearance, functionally identical to the Jeep Wrangler Sport/Sahara/Willys 9.7". ~3 years ago when I was shopping for a new car I considered the Forester Wilderness, which has 9.3" of ground clearance. We briefly owned a 2nd gen Forester which has 7.3", but it felt like less than that. I ended up not going for the new one and got a Kia instead. No old Cascade range logging roads for me.

The Solterra isn’t purely a Subaru; it’s a joint project with Toyota, which markets the same vehicle as the bZ in North America. Which might make some difference in how it looks, compared to other Subarus.

Err me gerrddd! She’s yellow, too!

That E Type is totally my jam. Series 1 3.8l. I need it.

Now I wanna know what he tows with it
