A late model Pontiac G6 with the front AND rear bumpers held on (barely) by several rounds of clear packing tape. “That’s interesting” is pretty much exactly what I thought, followed quickly by “I need to get far away from this guy”.
A screaming lime green Wrangler with a black top. Made me happy and feeling slightly unhinged simultaneously. :d
I was at a shop in PA picking up a new bike (Moto Guzzi 850T) and this timer pulled up in a yellow 70s Cadillac Convertible hauling his 4-wheeler. An uncle had a Coupe De Ville when I was a kid, but I’d forgotten just how enormous some of those old boats were. And it had those gadgets on the fenders to show the blinkers were working.
A heads up to Bay Area auto Dopers–the Blackhawk Museum is having a free “All British Motor Show” this Saturday 10/22. (The cars will be on display in the parking lot–the “free” part doesn’t include admission to the museum)
Last night, parked in the parking lot of a pizza place in Saratoga CA: a white Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
As I walked past it, staring as it sat there in the parking space, it even looked fast.
Thanks for the heads up. I’m near you, 280 & Meridian (I’m @ 85 & 101), but doubt I’ll head there today. (But as I type this, I’m seeing if I can make that happen!)
I made it there - I’m changing my oil so I needed to warm it up anyway, right? Several nice cars there but the ones that stood out for me were:
1972 Ginetta G4
1950 Allard J2 SL
1974 Jensen Healy Roadster
1970 Marcos GR 3L V-6
2012 McLaren MP4-12C
2005 Morgan Aero 8
1987 Morgan Plus 8
2009 Aston Martin V8 Vantage
1964 Triumph TR4 Surrey Top
1967 Jaguar 4.2 Coupe (CA-TJJ947)
1958 Morris Minor Traveller
There were several Exiges, but no Elises - darn! That Jag 4.2 coupe is one I saw the other week and posted about above. Its owner lives near Santa Cruz. Thanks for the heads up on that, blondebear.
My fave today at the Blackhawk was the 1950 Allard J2 SL. The owner said he had planned to drive the car in the Great Race from California to Illinois but he had to drop out due to health reasons.
A Bentley Flying Spur, ahead of me on an on ramp. I have to say I was underwhelmed with the styling - I first thought it was a Kia Genesis, which either says good things about Kia’s styling or bad things about the Bentley.
A Plymouth Prowler in heavy Chicago Monday morning commuter traffic on my way in today. These were never very common and I’d consider a sighting in the wild pretty rare.
That is a sweet looking car!
A 73 or 74 Dodge Dart Swinger in boring brown but excellent condition.
Followed a Laforza this afternoon. Never heard of it, had to look it up. It didn’t look as old as it had to be.
Nothing spectacular, but something not common these days: a mid-1980s Peugeot 505 GL sedan.
1967 Ford Galaxie 500 2-door hardtop.
(Yesterday)
Saw a metalflake green 1930s vintage Ford Pickup. Looked really great: except it was plastered with unfortunate political signs.
And a neighbor had a late model Corvette sitting the in driveway for some time with a flat tire and other problems. Then it was gone. And yesterday it was towed back and looks pretty good. Seems out of place for our neighborhood. But I assume it’s drivable now.
Yesterday, a 60s International pickup in red and white.
In Westminster, California: a pale yellow Mercury Montclair two-door hardtop. 1955 according to its plate frame, and in gleaming condition. I told my mother about it later and she asked if it had a push-button shifter - alas, I didn’t think to look for that. I’d felt conspicuous enough already walking a circuit around the car.
1956 Chevrolet Nomad Station Wagon
A classic.
I always loved the look of that car.
