Was at the Tall Pines rally in Bancroft, ON on Saturday and one of the competitors was a boxy looking Japanese coupe. I swore up and down that it was a early 80’s Toyota Celica Supra (it even had the factory wheels!), but when it was announced during the ceremonial start the announcer said it was a Mitsubishi Starion. Never heard of the damned thing!
I hate it when I’m wrong like that, but c’mon, how much does this look like an early 80’s Celica Supra?
The Starion had a set of welded tubes for a front end, otherwise I might have noticed the difference in the front plastics.
I have this creepy occurrence that keeps happening to me: You know the once-a-year snowstorms you get? The kind of snowstorm you really remember? The schools are closed and people with long commutes are taking snow days. The highway is a comical crawl as people slowly slide down the crown of the road into the ditch.
On that day, for about 4 years in a row now, I see a copper Porsche 911 Turbo tooling along in the slow lane on my local freeway. I live in a small city, so presumably it’s the same guy at the same point in his commute to work. The first year I told all of my car guy friends at work that, “I saw a 911 Turbo in this crazy mess, can you believe it?!?!” The following year I told them again ‘remember that cherry 911 Turbo I saw last year during the “storm of 2012?” Well it was out again!’ The next two times I saw it happen I kept my mouth shut because I was worried people would think I was making it up.
Looking forward to January to see if I can keep the streak alive.
The thought just struck me: Is AWD available on the 911 Turbos?
It was almost the…well, I’m not really sure what it was. The body was blue & the rims were mint choc. chip green & white! Was staring at them in a WTF manner so long I didn’t look up to see what the car was.
Therefore, I’m going with the white NSX parked in the far side of the mall garage.
A 66 (pretty sure, but not certain, F-series didn’t change much year-to-year) Ford F100 in almost painful day-glo flourescent Yellow. Parked in the lot at Menard’s.
On a single lane coastal canyon on Sunday, a line of 20-30 Ferraris passed in front of me at a three way intersection. The funny part was that, halfway through, the light changed for them and I got to make a left turn right into the middle of their herd. So, for a while, there were 12 new Ferraris in front of me, a dozen or so behind me and me tootling along in the middle happy as a clam. I only wish I had had the minivan to make things even funnier.
Also, I’m glad Ferrari owners aren’t as tempermental as Harley drivers about people getting in their midst.
Christmas Eve morning, while parking at a supermarket to get last-minute fruits, a vintage Porsche Carrera pulled into the lot. The weather was misting, with ice on the roads and rain expected later. My jaw dropped. I watched several Carreras on the ice. Not a good idea. I hope that pretty car survived our holiday weather.
Red 2-dr Subie WRX. Rear spoiler almost as big as the rear window gasket, w/ extra ground clearance. Because raising your CoG does soooo much to improve handling.
