I saw a yellow 914 yesterday on Rt 128, I loved those cars as a kid.

Saw a college-age male driving a Porsche (997 gen) 911 convertible on UK’s campus, really made me cringe. I remember the abuse my old Ford Granada endured with on-campus parking; I can’t imagine driving something that nice to school. I wouldn’t drive an old 944 or Boxster there.

I’ve seen the same Porsche GT3RS for several days now on my ride to work. I gather its this guy’s daily commuter. I had to check what they sell for - $175,000+ new. Must be nice.

It’s his choice but I’m against that. Since the 996 dropped 20 years ago, the 911 has pretty much been a sporty commuter car. The exception is the GT/GT3/GT3RS - those are the seriously track-oriented cars and are a pain on city streets. People with GT3s in the garage are literally why Porsche developed the Cayenne.

Two Porsches yesterday, a Cayenne and then a 911 a couple of hours later. But what made them interesting was their bright colors. It was a bright and sunny day, so their colors really popped.

The Cayenne was this bright yellow-green blend that I’d describe with: pea soup greenish, or bile greenish yellow. An odd color, neither green nor yellow, but clearly somewhere between the two. I wonder what its registration says it is. I searched, and even tried to build my own Cayenne on Porsche’s site, but couldn’t find that color.

The 911 was definitely a blue, but a unique blue I’d never seen before. A search quickly found that it’s apparently called Miami Blue. Images: porsche 911 miami blue - Google Search
Those colors made me think back on some European car colors of the 1970s. Bright, almost loud, flashy, unique.

Yep. Those are called PTS or paint-to-sample colors. The whole of VAG does this except for the cheaper mainstream brands like Skoda or VW. BMW has Individual and I forget what MBZ calls theirs.

And then also a 1st-generation Toyota Celica, circa 1970-1977. It was a sedan, not the hatchback, and its rear end was lifted and was shod with oversized dragster slicks. Interesting.
