A brand new, still with dealer markings and no license plate yet, VW Golf wagon, but it was a TDI diesel. VW can sell new diesels now. Apparently.
My cousins came to visit on Saturday, and we went for dinner at the Carousel buffet restaurant in Peterborough. On the way out, we turned the wrong way onto Lansdowne St, and we spotted an antique car parked in front of the Best Western hotel next door. Then another. And another. And then a dozen of them, all in a group.
We turned in to the hotel to look. It was a club of antique Rolls-Royce owners on tour. The cars were from the 1910s and 1920s, all beautifully restored. Amazing.
Many years ago I was visiting an old home in Bellevue WA and turned the corner to see a Delorean parked on the street. And then a second. And a third, fourth, fifth, etc. It turned out to be the Delorean club of Seattle having an annual meeting.
Driving on I-70 about 2 hours ago I spotted a '58 Edsel 4 door. Pretty good shape, but not restored to like new.
Last weekend there was a big fundraiser in Portsmouth, black tie with a James Bond theme, so driving Rt.1 Sunday was a treat. My favorites: black Bentley Continental GT, a black Ferrari, and a vintage British green Jaguar XJ-something, heading south. Heading north was an assortment of convertibles young and old and muscle cars in terrific colors. My best day ever for car spotting.
Mercedes-Benz AMG GT R.
ETA: in this funky, mustard yellow, not quite yellow, not quite gold, not quite Guldens brown mustars; like this https://www.google.com/search?q=mercedes+benz+amg+gtr&client=safari&hl=en-us&prmd=inv&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjak4Wlq8rWAhUH1GMKHcquCMIQ_AUIESgB&biw=768&bih=928#imgrc=tNf7hv1iZB3XLM:
A KISS-branded Mini Clubman. Gene Simmons’ greed has no bounds.
Saw an bright blue MG Midget yesterday - it’s insane how small some cars used to be. It makes the Smart Fortwo or Mini Cooper look huge.
My 20-year old pickup is slowly dying, and though I hope to get another winter out of it I was out looking at trucks yesterday; came across a Porsche Cayenne turbo for $6k, cheaper than the F-150 I’d gone to check out and about the same age and mileage. Depreciation is a crazy thing.
2017 Alfa Romeo 4C - what a cutie.
A 63 Dodge dually stake truck. So ugly it’s beautiful. Very similar tothis one.
A Lotus Evora, in jet black.
A Lamborghini, with the license plate “buylow”
A mid-70s Porsche 911, no idea which model but interesting how small it looked compared to current models.
I saw a strange kit car the other day and I’d like a closer look. It looked like a tiny, out of proportion 911, with a very smaill cabin. Any ideas?
@carnut, that doesn’t ring a bell but I found this in an image search:
I found that too, when I searched. This one had a normal length front end, but the headlights were wrong, just the cabin and back were squished. I’m thinking the car underneath is actually front-engined. Bummed that I couldn’t stop for a photo or a chat with the owner.
I passed through my college town during homecoming and there was an extremely tricked out Camry, with a fake nuclear powerplant, two giant flagpoles, plastic wheel spikes, decals for the college, and a dozen more accessories. Someone is a really committed alum.
An orange/yellow Jeep. According to the decal at the rear of the front quarter panel, the model was a “Tonka” ![]()
Yesterday, I got to sit in, but not drive a Link-Belt RTC-8050 Series II 50 ton crane. It’s got a windshield wiper on the “sunroof” but there is NO visibility to the right side due to the boom. I can’t imagine driving that thru the tight canyons of lower Manhattan like he did!
Last night I saw a beautifully restored early 60s Corvette. Probably a '61 or '62, but I didn’t get a close enough look at it. Beautiful gray paint job.
A 2nd generation (1964-5) Ford Falcon, at a rest area in NH. Looked like it had been set up for racing.
