Anything fun going on? Myself, me and the wife went snorkeling at Hanauma Bay today. Or I went snorkeling while she relaxed on the beach and caught up on some reading. She did splash around a little but is not comfortable in the water. Entry is free to state residents, $7.50 to out-of-staters, both American and foreign. Saw some fantastic fish. No sea turtles this time, but I have in the past.
I guess everyone’s holed up at home this weekend.
Nothing too exciting for me as I’m working this weekend. Some gardening, some housekeeping, watching movies with the family.
I :
Got a new rat
Celebrated my husband’s Birthday
Had some new kids in my Sabbath School class
Ate at the bestpizza place ever
All in all, not too shabby a weekend… and I got off early today!
Regular readers of the On-Going General Aviation thread can probably guess what I did for fun this past weekend.
Thursday through Sunday at Air Sailing, Nevada (way-the-hell out in the middle of nowhere, about 30 miles north of Reno), about 250-mile drive to get there, the last 5 miles of which on washboard dirt road and turn into mud rivers in the winter. Lessons Friday and Saturday in this Blanik L-23, including about 30 minutes of ridge soaring on that mountain in the background. This was my second visit there (the first being two weeks ago). I would have liked to have another lesson on Sunday, but it was ghastly hot all weekend and I was exhausted by then.
Note the house trailer in the background at far left center. There are four of those on-site for nightly rent by members/visitors for $16/night (I stayed in one of those.) No water, heat, electricity, gas in the trailers. One of them has solar. Numerous other private house trailers, and a camping area, and of course rows of private and club gliders tied down there. The clubhouse in the pic is air-conditioned, has a wide-screen TV and a computer with Internet access and wi-fi, a kitchen full of utensils and fridge, bathrooms, and showers. A separate bathhouse on the property has more bathrooms, showers, and a laundry room. People come for days or weeks at a time to camp and fly here. It’s open range land, so sometimes landing aircraft have to dodge the cows on the runway.
Five other people that I know were there also – two of them just stopped by for the night on their way north to view the eclipse.
Well, this coming weekend, the 26th, my Wife and I will drive down to Denver for my mom’s 88th birthday. Some family and friends. Nine of us and two dogs. Pretty low key. Some snacks, and cake and beer and wine. Two dogs too. Mom will get to meet Jackson our new dog.
Last weekend was working on the house. Rewired a new motion sensor on an outdoor deck light. Had to McGiver it a bit. Drill holes, pull out all the old wire in the post and replace it. It’s up to code though. And we laid down about 700 pounds of pavers to connect our deck to the new fence gate. I got those dug in on Sunday. Basically a big puzzle as it is natural stone. A bit of work.
Late as usual, but last weekend I:
-put a new catalytic converter and AC blower motor on my daughter’s vehicle.
-played with my grandson
-played golf
-played with my grandson, part II
-went to church
-took grandson to dinosaur exhibit at a local state park. It was very well done.
-played with my grandson, part III
All-in-all, a very nice weekend!
On the 26th, there will be a DopeFest in DC. Other than that, my weekend plans include mowing the lawn and doing laundry. Good times, good times!!
Air show on Saturday. Tubing 3 miles down a river on Sunday.
I should be home trimming hedges and such but oh well.
Next weekend I’m going to the launch party of Amikumu, software an acquaintance worked on. Also, seeing some friends.
Pardon my tardiness to the thread, but I have only just now mostly recovered from my weekend.
I joined a few dear friends and some near-strangers (who are now friends) in producing a collaborative storytelling event that’s been two years in the making, with dozens of characters and hundreds of pages of prep documents. The production itself lasted 18 hours across three days, with more time in between for the storytellers to engage in last-minute scrambling. It was bracketed by 14-hour road trips, during the latter of which, I stopped to sleep on someone’s floor for a bit, then went out to look at the sun. Also, I caught a cold, because cons are like that.
I wouldn’t miss the cold, but the rest of it was a blast.
This coming Saturday, my wife and I are going to the Festival of Nations then out to dinner. My sister in law and brother were kind enough to agree to watch the kids for us so we could have a much-postponed date.
Going to the ArenaBowl this Saturday (Go, Philadelphia Soul!!) and then playing in a Curling Friendly at the Anthracite Curling Club in Wilkes-Barre on Sunday. The days are just packed!
