There’s some truth there, I’ll grant, but he overstates the matter by saying typical Dopers engage in it. Besides, what he’s doing (and this is the second thread he’s done it in so far that I’ve seen) is more effective at hijacking a thread than the behavior he’s picketing against.
It’s only hijacking if you engage me.

But we’ve only just met!
Besides, you’re far more entertaining than VCO3.
He actually makes a pretty good point but you might’ve missed it.BTW Dudley, I took your first post as parody and it made me laugh.
Thank you sir. Its two intents were to a) prevent the idiot knee-jerkers from ruining what could be a decent discussion and b) to make the non-idiot knee-jerkers chuckle.
I don’t see what is wrong with his question. He is taking what a co-worker told him, and asking if it’s true, and why or why not. I think it’s an interesting question about culture. I also don’t think he’s being a “troll” or “racist.” I think he is honestly trying to learn more about black culture.
In my experience, most of the black women I know (from high school, mostly) have all had kids out of wedlock when they were very young, and many have multiple kids by multiple fathers. Since they are in their early 30s now (we graduated in 1993), I can see how the pool of single women without kids would be pretty small.

In all seriousness, you would do a lot better at achieving A if you just stated outright that you’re tired of these discussions getting hijacked and you’d like the OP to be taken seriously. Sure, it wouldn’t accomplish B, but fuck 'em. The people who’d laugh at that are the ones who specifically specifically share your opinion, and there’s people who don’t fit into either category like me who just think you’re being a douche.
Based on the fact that you replied to my initial post in this thread (which didn’t directly address you in any way), my assumption was that you felt you needed to answer – to be the spokesman – for those I was ridiculing in said post. In other words, if you’re not one of the knee-jerk morons with which this board is littered, why did you feel the need to condemn my post?
Because my reason for condemning your post was not it’s content, per se; it was the running current i’d seen where you do generally tend to mention the crappiness of the board or the majority of posters. So I wasn’t so much addressing your specific post as I was addressing your posting in the Pit as a whole. As I thought seemed clear in my post - “TypicalDudleyGarrett”. If I’d had a problem with what you said about VCO3, I suspect I would have said something about the guy.
I think you may be seeing people attacking you as needing to defend themselves from your claims, whereas they might just have been taking an opportunity to attack you. But any apology would be accepted.

Well, holy shit. I guess I better change my entire way of approaching this message board, then. People like Bosstone think I’m being a douche. My ass tastes like chocolate, I swear. Give it a lick.
Overlooked in all the erudite conversation.
Hmm, among middle-aged blacks, all the good ones are taken.
How does this differ from people of other races?

And they’re so damn loud, too. Why is that?
VCO3’s co-worker could very well have told him ‘how it is’ with black guys his age. It’s not too far-fetched, and I don’t think the OP should be lambasted for asking about it online if that’s what truly happened. But from the little I know about the co-worker, his singledom probably has little to do with there being no ‘available’ women and more to do with his own personal preferences and prejudices. He has a problem with women who are, let’s see…
‘Hos’- right. Going to a club and/or having casual sex takes a woman out of the game(and that’s a pretty damn big ‘and/or’ as nightclubbing does not always translate into bed-hopping). Okay, so that’s not his scene. i get it.
‘Damaged goods’- right. nice term there, not sure if it was the OP’s or his co-worker’s. I suppose all these women were impregnated by the same handful of guys, and that’s why there’s still this abundance of nice, respectable men in contrast to ‘damaged’ mothers. But okay, kids are a definite no-no. To each her own.
‘undesirable physically and/or personality-wise’- riiight. Undesirable to whom? Was he planning on dating only the universally desirable? And what exactly are the problems plaguing singletons of other races, if not this lack of desire for the physical traits and personalities of those other singletons around them (well, the ones who express interest)?
If the OP is being straight, this just sounds like one of those situations where something that starts off as a racial/gendered issue turns out to be either universal (e.g. the existence of ‘Indian time,’ ‘Mexican time,’ ‘Black time,’ etc. which are all used by their respective cultures/ethnicities to mean pretty much the same thing) or a lame explanation for an individual’s personality/failings.

Maybe they’re watching movies on their portable DVD players and yelling at the screen.
I beg you’re pardon? I sir, lick.
I apologise. I would never wish to impugn your licking talent, sir.
I’m obsessed with black people, mainly because I am not one and because their culture is always present but separate from mainstream white culture. I was talking to my black coworker the other day about marriage and dating in black culture, especially in adulthood (he’s in his mid-thirties and has never been married). He claims that it’s a total wasteland for middle-class black adults after about age 25 - there simply aren’t women around that aren’t “hos” (the type of promiscuous/party girl you’d meet at “the club”), “damaged goods” (had a kid when they were a teenager, now have two or three kids from different fathers at age 35’ish), or those that are undesirable physically and/or personality-wise. He scours tons of personal sites and tries, but he said it’s just a total wasteland, and that that’s what it’s like for blacks all over.
Why is this? Is this mainly an urban phenomenon? It’s true that you don’t seen to see as many married black couples, and almost any black guy I’ve known in his twenties or thirties was single.
What’s up with that?
I completely agree with your co-worker’s assessment of dating life. I am in my mid-thirties as well, and I find that the available women tend to fall into many of the same categories. All in all, I find that my dating experiences mirror his very closely.
I am roughly as black as Robert Downey Jr.
Who is this “typical Doper” we speak of? What magazines will you find on his coffee table? What brand of car does he drive? What blend of tobacco does he smoke in his pipe? And what brand of aftershave does he use after shaving his scrotum?
You mean after shaving HER scrotum, you sexist pig!
VCO3: If you were black, and you posted your OP asking about white culture, I can see you having the same impressions.
I applaud VCO3’s efforts to make the board more interesting. May I recommend additional topics for future discussions? We may debate and analyze the black perspective on:
circumcision
obesity
outdoor vs. indoor cats
tipping
declawing one’s cat
female body image
transgender issues
foodies

Well, if you were getting fucked six ways from Sunday by a bunch of different guys and popping out kids left and right, you’d be screaming too.
As for the OP : Your pal only knows three kinds of Black women? Hos, dogs, and damaged goods? He needs to get out more. And you need to increase your sample size before jumping to conclusions.

Exactly. I’ve dated a few wonderful Black girls, and I’m a White guy.
This is fucking FANTASTIC Without more than 1 initial post VCO3 has people bickering about something that isn’t even the outrageous topic of the OP! Its a new level of assholism! Oh god bless him, he brings out the best in everyone.
I’m with Marshmallow can we PLEASE do a “black people don’t tip” thread!?!
