So, a new poster came in a posted a thread in GD that was nothing more than a link to his blog about LBJ. Thread closed. Apparently, he came back and started another thread which seems to have been moved from GD, but when I click on it, I get a message saying I don’t have authorization to access that page.
Huh?
I don’t really care about the thread, I just want to know where it was moved to that we can’t access instead of just being closed, if the intent was to deny access.
Why not just close the thread? Otherwise, it just causes confusion since most threads that are “moved” are still viewable by us. I’ve been on this MB for over a decade, and I’ve never encountered this before.
It’s the Grassy Knoll forum, of course. All the threads that actually set out the Real Story on the Kennedy Assassination go there, to keep the sheeple from waking up to the reality of life.
Obviously, someone found the lengthy JFK assassination thread via Google or some other search, and had to drop in with The Truth. (Also without reading a word of the thread.) And then start a second thread to make sure the Truth was not buried by nay-sayers.
This. When a mod moves a thread, he or she has the option of leaving a thread redirect. This is useful if they wish the thread to be viewable in the new forum, but can be confusing when the thread is sent to the mods-only forum. The mod that wished the thread into the cornfield apparently forgot to turn off the thread redirect. This results in the notice about insufficient privileges to view the page.
It was spam. Spam threads are usually either soft deleted or moved to the mod forum. In this case I moved it rather than deleting it, simply because it had a few replies already (although not many, only about 8-9).
It happens with most threads on here with spam, although a redirect usually is not left.
As for why the redirect was left in this case…that was a mistake. I didn’t know I had left one, I thought I clicked the option not to leave one.
Sure, sure. We all know the truth now. Northern Piper blew your cover! Now we have firm proof that the SDMB is an official arm of the shadow government.
So why does the first thread remain available, but locked, in GD? It contains the now banned blog link, yet the second thread appeared to be an attempt to rectify that issue is now gone? Seems to me if the mods are going to send a thread to rendition, that they send both threads by the banned OP and be done with it.
Or does the locked thread serve as a severed head on a pole warning to others?
The reason the first was only closed (and not moved or the OP banned) is because it wasn’t apparent yet that the OP was someone who only had interest in promoting and shilling their own promotions/agenda.
By the second topic, it was pretty much made clear, so I banned and moved the topic (since there weren’t any GD mods on at the time).
In the future, we really ask that you PM a staff member if you have any questions about disappearing topics or banned members, so I’m going to close this thread.
The first (and remaining) thread was simply locked with a message indicating why it was locked. As such, the poster was not Warned or issued any reprimand and I saw no reason to move the thread off the board.
On his return, the author was abusive and made a point of breaking several rules, getting himself banned in the process. The Mod who closed that thread decided that part of the banning included removing the thread and the hostile posts.
My guess is that John Mace saw the second thread during the move process when the title was still visible but the move have not yet completed. It seems to be no longer visible from Great Debates.
