Here, strictly for no reason at all, a little poll:
What’s your bed time?
What’s your bed time routine (if you have one)?
In an ideal world, how many hours of sleep would you get a night?
In the real world, how many hours of sleep do you get a night?
Here’s mine:
My 7-year-old goes to bed at 9:30; because of the way my house is laid out, all the bedrooms are upstairs. Therefore, I try to have all my downstairs work done by 9:30, so when I tuck in my little one, I’m upstairs for the night. So, I tuck her in at 9:30. Then I put away the basket of clean laundry I brought up with me (it gets folded downstairs, usually right after dinner). Then, I shower, wash and moisturize my face, brush my teeth. I’m in my room by 10PM (give or take). I watch a couple of shows I’ve DVR’d. While I’m watching TV, I lay out my clothes, and my little one’s clothes, for the next day. Then, I spend a few minutes writing in my journal (yep, I still have a paper one!), a few minutes reading whatever book is by my bed. I try to have my eyes closed by 11:30 (the DVR really helps, because a 30-minute show only takes about 22 minutes to watch). My alarm is set for 7:15.
In an ideal world, I’d get 8-9 hours of sleep a night. In the real world, I do 7-8.
What’s your bed time? 1-2 AM
What’s your bed time routine (if you have one)? Shower, brush teeth, read 1 hour.
In an ideal world, how many hours of sleep would you get a night? 5-6
In the real world, how many hours of sleep do you get a night? 5-6
Normal night: Home by 7PM, go to Gym by 8, back home by 10, dinner by 10:30 and watch 2-3 shows taped while I was at the gym until midnight or so, usually in bed by 12:30 to read until sleepy. Up at 6:40.
My bed time is usually between 12-2am. I usually just wash my face, brush my teeth, and surf the Net until I’m sleepy. This is a pretty bad habit because a lot of the time I’ll get caught up in something silly and end up staying awake for far longer than I should. I feel best with 8 hours of sleep but the reality is more like 6-7.
Leave work - 4:30
Gym - 5:00 - 6:30
Home and dinner - 7:00 or so
Check emails, play with Lilly, Queen of the Universe, get her situated for bed - 8:30
Watch TV, read, fix my lunch for the following day, fix Susan dinner if she has clients late that night - 9:00/9:30
Bed time - 10:00
Asleep usually by 10:30
Rise and shine - 6:30
I usually get about 8 hours of sleep per night and that seems to be just about right for me. I sleep like a log.
Bedtime: usually about 11:00
Routine: one last e-mail check for both of us, then wash face/brush teeth/remove contacts, then to bed, where we talk and snuggle until one or both of us is too sleepy to continue, then sleep
Ideal hours of sleep per night: 9
Real world: 6-8, depending on the night
What’s your bed time?
Typically 2 AM, occasionally later, rarely earlier
What’s your bed time routine (if you have one)?
Switch everything off, walk upstairs in the dark, undress, clean teeth and wipe face (having showered or bathed earlier in the evening), creep into bedroom in the dark (trying not to wake sleeping spouse), set alarm clock, get in bed, sleep.
In an ideal world, how many hours of sleep would you get a night?
None at all - in my ideal world, sleep would be entirely optional.
In the real world, how many hours of sleep do you get a night?
Typically 4 or 5.
What’s your bed time?
Between 10-10:30 p.m.
What’s your bed time routine (if you have one)?
Brush teeth, kiss husband good night, pat animals, lay out clothes for the next day. Climb into bed, turn on alarm, watch “The Daily Show,” dozing off anytime from five minutes in to the end of the show. Wake up sometime during “The Colbert Report” and turn the TV off. My husband comes to bed between 10:30-11:30.
In an ideal world, how many hours of sleep would you get a night?
Honestly? Ten would be lovely.
In the real world, how many hours of sleep do you get a night?
8
What’s your bed time?
Usually around 10pm or 10.30pm but that depends on what I’m doing.
What’s your bed time routine (if you have one)?
Home from work around 6.15pm, changed and in the gym by 6.30pm if I’m going there. Dinner is around 8pm then lounge about playing with the cats and/or watching telly for an hour. Bath sometime between 9-9.30pm, brush teeth, do that dreadful girlie face-cleaning stuff, half an hour of reading then hopefully in bed by 10pm. That’s an ideal night, most of them just don’t work out like that.
In an ideal world, how many hours of sleep would you get a night?
8 at least.
In the real world, how many hours of sleep do you get a night?
I sleep very poorly so I usually get around 5 hours a night but that’s on a good night. Some nights it’s as little as 3hrs.
Bedtime - 9:30-10pm
Routine - brush and gargle, pee, kiss wife goodnight, move cats off of my side of the bed, sleep, wake up when wife goes to bed to see if I’m gonna get lucky, up at 5:10am.
That adds up to 7 hours of sleep most nights, 8 if I’m lucky, 6 if I’m really lucky.
What’s your bed time?
Lately, it’s been around 2am. It can vary between 11pm and 3:30am depending on the day’s schedule. What’s your bed time routine (if you have one)?
If I’m not incredibly lazy that day, brushing hair and teeth, putting on acne medication, take laptop into bedroom and surf the 'net for a while, possibly chat with friends on IM until it is much later than any of us intended, turn off laptop and roll over for bed. Usually takes about a half hour to fall asleep, on average. In an ideal world, how many hours of sleep would you get a night?
Nine or ten. That would be idyllic. In the real world, how many hours of sleep do you get a night?
If I don’t have class or a job the next day, usually about nine. If I do, seven or less.
Betdime: between 12 and 2 AM
Routine: Wash face, brush teeth, floss in front of the TV. Either surf, read or watch TV (or a combination thereof) until I fall asleep.
Ideal sleep: 8 hours
IRL Sleep: 7-8 hours
I should add that my bed time routine works like a charm for me during the week, when hubby’s not home. On weekends, when he’s home, the whole thing goes out the window.
Hopefully, one of these days, we’ll be like a “normal” married couple and he’ll be home just about every night, then I’ll re-work things to take him into account, too.
Go upstairs about 9:00. Watch TV and work on a crossword puzzle while the cat lays next to me. At about 10:00, fetch clothes for next day and a glass of icewater. Shower, dry off, and lie in bed for a bit and watch some TV. Take evening pills and turn out lights about 11:00. Wife comes in about 11:30, wake up and chat with her or more, depending on the night.
**What’s your bed time?**I shoot for 9, but sometimes if I am really really tired I will go as early as 8.
**What’s your bed time routine (if you have one)?**I like to read some before bed, but that is just because that is when it is convenient.
**In an ideal world, how many hours of sleep would you get a night?**8. Since I usually have an hour of insomnia in the middle of the night, this converts to 9 from laying down to getting up.
**In the real world, how many hours of sleep do you get a night?**Same as above.
Wow. I somehow lived under the impression that my bedtime schedule was normal, but the majority of people in this thread are in bed way before midnight. :smack: I guess being a student demands a somewhat different schedule than being employed does.
When I was a student I often stayed up until the small hours getting work finished, or catching up with other people in different time zones. It also depends on what time lectures start in the morning and whether there are early classes to attend or library visits to schedule etc.
Now I’m a wageslave, I have to be up by 6am to have any hope of getting to work in time - that’s after a shower, breakfast cuppa, feed the cats, make lunch, get 'im indoors out of bed, make him a cuppa, get to the bus stop to get to the station, get one train, change trains for the second one, walk from the station to the office.
Routine: About 9:30, read to the boy and tuck him in. Then make his lunch for school the next day. Feed cats, set house alarm, brush teeth, wash face, clean contact lenses.
Ideally, I’d get about 8 hours of sleep a night.
In reality, I get maybe six and a half hours of broken sleep. My husband has the TV on, which makes it difficult to fall asleep, or he may keep me up for other reasons. Later I have to make at least one trip to the bathroom. Later still, I have to get up and squirt water at the cat (after lying awake “ignoring” the meows for a while). After a couple of water-squirting adventures, I get up and lock the cat in the laundry room.
Bedtime (if no insomnia): 11 p.m. Bedtime (if insomnia, about 1x/week): 3 a.m. Routine: Once kids are put to bed (8 p.m.), a couple hours of boinking and/or working on the computer and/or TV, then the big decision- insomnia or no? If no, see above. However, if bed at 11 and pre-bed evening festivities didn’t involve boinking, there’s a good chance it’ll happen now. If yes to insomnia question, more TV and/or net surfing with a glass or two of wine, then bed around 2:30-3:00, with possible boinking. In either case, go upstairs, pee, brush (Sonicare, baby!), face cream (yes, I’m a guy and I use face cream. If I don’t, my skin gets dry and flaky and it’s embarrassing to be in a meeting with bits of my face drifting down to the conference table like I’m some sort of leper. So, face cream. Deal with it.), strip nekkid, crawl into bed.
**Ideal world: ** between 8 & 9.
**Real world: ** Max of 7, min of 4.
