It’s that time of the season. The produce section of grocery stores have heaping bins of nuts.
English Walnuts, Pecans, Filberts, Nigger Toes, Almonds, and Pistachios. Anything your heart desires in a shell.
What do you prefer to buy and shell yourself?
I usually buy English Walnuts and Pistachios in the shell.
I hate messing with pecans. Always have to dig out tiny pieces of nut with a metal pick. Filberts are ok but I’m not spending my money on them.

I’ve been calling Brazil Nuts, Nigger Toes since I was five years old. So does everyone I know that’s remotely close to my age.
I don’t call people the N word. Never have and never will.

Maybe you know them as hazelnuts. They’re the ones that resemble an acorn.
I should have said Filberts/Hazel Nuts in the poll. They are basically the same thing. Usually you find Filberts in those bins of nuts in the produce section.
I grew up amongst highly racist people in the mid-70s and even THEY would not call them “Nigger Toes.”
Thank You, I had to look it up on Wikipedia, the term nigger toe in my family, was known, but always spoken in whispers and generally shunned. It was always spoken as a historic name, even from my drunken ass grandparents.

I wanted to apologize if anyone was offended by the slang name for brazil nuts. I simply used the slang name just in case someone didn’t know the formal name. Google nigger toe. The very first entry is a wikipedia article for brazil nuts. That’s all the term is. Another slang term for brazil nut.
Most of the families near my granddads rural home were black. I grew up playing with black kids. We were out in the yard roughhousing every day after school. We shelled a lot of nuts on my granddads porch and put them in the freezer. Everybody ate Nigger Toes and thats what they were called by everybody white or black. I never heard of brazil nuts until high school.
Words have different meanings based on context. I went coon hunting in high school. It’s understood that I’m referring to racoons and not people. We eat nuts for a snack. It’s understood we are referring to tree nuts and not testicles.

I voted for pistachios and almonds, but I don’t associate pistachios with Christmas (or any other holiday, for that matter).
I don’t know what nuts have to do with holidays (except for that song about roasting chestnuts) but I love raw almonds and brazil nuts.
I love Brazil nuts. I’ll be 57 on Xmas Day, and that is ALL I ever call them. Brazil nuts.
You forgot cashews and macadamias.
And I’ve never heard of filberts.
