Pistachios are the only nut worth cracking, in my opinion.
Did everyone else have, growing up, that round wooden nut bowl that only came out during the holidays? It had holes for the nutcracker to stand up in, along with additional holes for the deadly-weapon walnut meat extractor instruments.

pistachios won the poll easily. 
They are really high this year. Over $6 for a 16oz bag in the shell. I was out at Sams today and got a 3 lb (48 oz) bag for $16. The identical size & brand is $26 at Amazon.
