I’d have only complained if you didn’t give me any whipped cream with my pie. I prefer pumpkin for Thanksgiving. Apple pie is fine (cheddar doesn’t it make it that much more appealing to me), but it’s more an everyday, non-holiday pie for me.
Marie Callendar’s used to have it all the time. I can remember when my work group went there for lunch, one of my coworkers always had to pick up a piece to go for her husband.
Okay, I understand making a pie with canned fruit if it’s difficult to source fresh. Heck, it’s pretty standard to use canned pumpkin! I myself have resorted to canned pie cherries when I couldn’t find any frozen ones. But apples?? You can get fresh apples at any time of year in even the smallest markets. You might not have as much selection in the summer as you do now, but almost any grocery store will have Granny Smiths year-round.
