Multiple choice poll – for which raw fruits you have actually eaten AND liked – is on the way.
With 9 Voters thus far, Cherries lead with 5.
Which will be the first to 10?
I love pretty much all fruit, with the exception of raw tomatoes. But one is better than the rest. I’m nonreligious, but peaches have caused me to seriously consider the existence of a God. They’re just . . . perfect. No long complicated procedure to go through before eating like with watermelon or oranges (OK, some may not call peeling an orange a “long complicated procedure,” but let’s just say I have issues). No millions of tiny pits or seeds to be disposed like with cherries or seeded grapes. And the taste. It’s everything great about summer boiled down and shoved inside your mouth.
Apples put up a fair fight, though. Living in NY, I probably eat them many times more than anything else, and this time of year they’re divine. Plus, all the things you can use them for - oatmeal, apple pie, baked and stuffed apples, apple crisp, apple juice. But peaches win.
ETA: Oh, and Obligatory xkcd.
Excellent! I wouldn’t be surprised if our results are in line with that graphic. Surely does apply to my tastes and preferences.
My Dad made “peach stew” by putting vanilla ice cream on sliced peaches. One step closer to heaven for me!
You have lychees but no rambutan? Tomatoes but no avocado?
In any case, it’s mangoes for me, with rambutan coming in a distant second.
No fruit beats a raw Asian apple pear.
I’m glad I could pick (no pun intended) more than one… my “other” is elderberries!
I love all fruit, but persimmons I’ve only had cooked. I ticked all the others I’ve eaten, I liked them all.
Not specifically listed, that I like - redcurrants, whitecurrants, blackcurrants, mulberries, guavas, quince (with salt!), prunes, loquat.
This is the “tick all that apply” part of the poll, right?
I like most fruits.
Top of the list are: raspberries, mango, pineapple, and pear, but I’ve yet to eat a fruit that I truly did not like. In Perú we have - lucuma, chirimoya, guayaba. I love them all. Oh and avocados, of course. Yes, they are a fruit.
Oranges can be hit be miss, (Either that or I haven’t figured out how to pick’em) but man, when you get a good one, they’re freaking awesome.
I very specifically adore caracara oranges. I will agree with when the <fruit> is good it is heavenly summation - I have had an occasional pear or peach that I had considered absolutely perfect in every way - perfect flavor, juicy, perfectly ripe, just heavenly. I dislike pears when they are grainy, dry and hard - then they are basically only good for cooking.
I live in Maine and the wild blueberries are yummy – but HOW could I forget grapefruit and watermelon and and and … :smack:
I voted for peaches.
Here’s a progress report that I’d like to get some feedback on. I’m thinking the next step will be as described in the linked post in the OP:
The next poll will be public and the first five votes by individual will be counted for the sake of building a final poll where ONE VOTE per voter will determine the most popular fruit.
A “booby prize” will be determined from the results of the next two polls by some method yet to be determined.
I’m thinking the next poll will consist of those fruits that have received at least 10% of the votes. And as of right now those would be from the top 25 in this grouping:

As more votes come in over the next few days perhaps the poll options may change.
Please add your comments to this thread for ways you see that would be improvements on this approach.
Man, there’s a lot of “mixing of apples and oranges” in that poll! Overlapping categories, mixed up levels of classification… Without reading the background thread (I just don’t have time today), it seems designed in part to gauge the popularity of “common” fruits vs. “exotic” ones (from a US/UK perspective).
I showed off my past, a decade of living in Mexico, by including “mamey” on the list (great for milkshakes, had a tree in my back yard – too much leaf litter! – and a beautiful color), as well as “dragonfruit” – known to Mexicans as “pittaya.”
There were very specific categories in the list for some fruits, but not for grapes, which is too bad, because I would only include Concord grapes in a list of favorite fruits.
Or maybe this poll is designed to cleverly see who thinks it’s bizarre to include “tomato” on a list of fruits? (Yeah, I know, botanically speaking it’s a fruit, blah blah…)
I like all kinds of fruit but my favorite is really really crunchy Red Delicious Apples.
It’s between apples and grapes, really. But both have to be a specific kind. I need the tartness. Cantaloupe and watermelon aren’t far behind.
Nectarines. All my life.
I love kumquats too.
Yup 2x. Anybody like muskadines?
Bananas.
