I was gonna say cinnamon-raisin with some cream cheese, but on second thought, I’ll have one of what psycat is having.
Now I know what I am going to eat when I get back to Jersey next week. Everything toasted with pork roll, egg and cheese. Delicious.
What’s my favorite bagel? Yes, please.
Well, if it’s just the bagel with nothing on it, blueberry. If I’m gonna toast it and slather on some cream cheese, blueberry again. If I’m going to make a sandwich of some sort with it, then poppyseed. But those are just general preferences. Really, I like pretty much all kinds of bagels from plain to jalapeño/cheddar/etc.
Toasted spinach bagel with sundried tomato cream cheese. A close second is an everything bagel with lox, cream cheese & red onion. Mmmmm…
I don’t put cream cheese on my bagels, so I look for as much flavor as possible in the bagel itself. My order of preference, carefully honed in years of living in New York, is:
Japapeno and Asiago (or other cheese)
Jalapeno
Asiago (or other cheese)
Salt
Everything
Garlic
Onion
Sesame
Dirt
Feces
In that order.
Onion, fresh from the bagel store, with Philadelphia Cream Cheese and lox from Waldbaums, on Saturday night along with a Sunday New York Times from the stand in front of the Meadows theater in Fresh Meadows, Queens.
sob Where’s my time machine, I want to go home!
(We native New Yorkers are serious about our bagels. Where I live now I’m stuck with Noah’s.)
Woo-hoo! That’s more for me!
I’ll take an onion bialy or an everything bagel, with lox, cream cheese, and sliced tomato and onion. I’ll be in Manhattan later this week, so I plan to check out either H&H Bagels or Ess-A-Bagel – I’ve heard from fans of both, but they are supposedly the best bagels in NYC (and presumably the country).
Me too. As long as the bagel itself is a proper bagel and not bagel-shaped bread, it only wants a bit of butter and a quarter pound of cream cheese.
H&H is good but IMHO overrated. I haven’t been to the other place. When I’m in NYC I’ll go to the place up the block from Billdo’s (and in spite of his feeling that sweet bagels are anathema, I get cinnamon & raisin as well as the others).
Fresh onion with cream cheese and lox.
No Montrealers have posted yet, I see. Montreal bagels rule, especially the ones from Fairmount Bagels or St Viateur Bagels. Once you’ve had one of those, the rest of bagel world is spoiled for you forever.
Those who don’t like bagels at all just haven’t tried ours.
Chocolate??? Oy. Goyim! There shoudn’t be any chocolate bagels. Or strawberry or blueberry. Ok, you can still eat them but only with the blinds drawn and you have to plant a tree in Israel after each one.
Everything, onion, garlic, salt. Occasionly poppy seed. Toasted, one half buttered one half cream cheese.
What makes you think I’m goyishe? Simply because I liked a chocolate bagel? I am, but still. I know plenty of Jews who like a sweet bagel.
Plain white, toasted, with cream cheese and lox.
Oh god. I want a toasted bagel with cream cheese and lox. sniffle
Salt with cream cheese, lox, capers, red onion and a squeeze of lemon juice. Heaven.
Well…so am I. but you’re supposed to stick to, well maybe rasins. Chocolate just gets too close to a doughnut. Goyish foolisness.
That sounds good; I’ll have to try it sometime.
I like Everything bagels, lightly toasted with butter or cream cheese.
Onion bagels are good, too.
I used to work at a Chesapeake Bagel Bakery when I was in college, almost all of them seem to have closed in the DC area. Anyway, it has to be a real bagel, not round bread from the grocery store and my favorite is everything, toasted with veggie cream cheese, with a big glass of OJ. Now, that is a breakfast.
Sweet bagels are an abomination before the Lord. Putting chocolate in a bagel is like smearing it on the Mona Lisa.
I’ll bet the bagels weren’t even boiled. They were just round bread.
In any case, I prefer everything bagels, but also like poppy seed, sesame seed, and onion.
