What's your favourite cocktail?

Are you a Zombie drinker? Or do you prefer a slow comfortable double-entendre against the wall?

Myself, I discovered this wonderful cocktail a few years ago and have been harping on about it to everybody ever since. It’s very simple, just Malibu and Milk. I don’t know if it’s got a name or anything but it’s just Lush!

Have you found any special mix or blend, or any odd combination of drinks that please the palate?

I have lots of favorites, but a month usually doesn’t go by without at least one night of Maragarita drinkin’

The Best Marg:

Add equal thirds of:

  • Decent quality Tequila
  • Grand Marnier or Cointreau
  • Fresh squeezed lime juice

to a shaker filled with ice. Shake shake shake, pour into ice-filled glass. Rinse and repeat.

I love a Brandy Alexander

Though I am quite partial to a Pina Colada - not very classy I know.

I also like lemony/citrussy ones witha bit of zing.

Funny, my friend was just talking about cocktails a minute ago. Have a look at this web site. It’s Bastille Day today - celebrate with one of these…

Lately I’ve been drinking martinis, mixed to approximately equal proportions of gin and vermouth. I also mix in a good deal of lemon juice, and throw in the wedge; I’m not sure it still qualifies as a martini, but either way decent quality gin is essential.

SofP - “equal proportions”? Gadzooks! That’s the wettest martini I’ve ever heard of!

My drink of choice is a Cuba Libre: rum, cola, juice of half a lime, drop of Angostura bitters, ice

Bombay coolers (lemonade plus a shot of Beefeater’s gin)

Bellinis (pear or peach juice with champagne)

Mimosas (orange juice + champagne)

Good warm-weather drinks.

Red bull & Vodka…I an drink those all night long and never get a hangover…yum.

See, a gin and tonic generally does me well, but when I want to get fancy, a Mojito is rather nice, or a Cuba Libre. And you can’t go wrong with a good Gibson.

Ah, vodka & red bull, often drink that if I don’t want the alcohol to get me groggy.

Seriously though, I dare anyone here to try milk + malibu and tell me it’s not the tastiest concoction in the world (disclaimer - must like coconut)

“Lately I’ve been drinking martinis, mixed to approximately equal proportions of gin and vermouth.”

I don’t know what you call it either, but it ain’t a martini.

My martini:

3 ounces gin
dropper full of vermouth

put in a shaker with ice and shake, shake, shake

strain into glass which has had a twist swiped around the rim

serve bracingly cold

repeat until vision blurs

I like the Hennessy Sidecar- but with Cointreau instead of Triple Sec (Chill the martini glass, lemon twist in there as well, pinch of sugar). Smooth on the way down with a little bite if mixed right.

Does this make me high-maintenance?

Gin and tonic is not a cocktail, it’s a highball.
Cocktail:

Hard liquor and at least two other ingredients, excluding ice, garnish, water, or fizzwater of some sort.

Yes, even the martini at one time had at least three liquid ingredients:

If one fills a drink up with fizzwater, it’s no longer a cocktail but a highball. One sure way to tell if you’re in a lousy bar is to ask for an Old Fashioned. If they fill it up with fizzwater, turn around, walk out, and never return for any reason.

Singapore Sling…

3 of these babies and I’m sitting on the veranda of the Raffles hotel in a dinner jacket instead of reclining in a kid’s wading pool in my skivvies.

And yes, I realize that that is NOT an attractive mental picure.

Thanks brainfizz, I am going to go home tonight and try it b/c I just happen to have the ingredients at home. I do drink raging bulls in clubs to stay alert. But I will let you know how I like the malibu concoction - does it have a name?

A three legged naked wet rat with a stupid bad shave.

I still haven’t decided what’s in it.

Well you’re probably right at that. I’m still working on finding the right mix. I actually drank a couple of these 50/50 mixtures last night and now have a mild headache which I attribute to the adjuncts in the vermouth.

I confess with real shame that, not having proper Martini glasses at home, I drink them on the rocks.

I prefer a Kamikaze straight up, myself.

SofP - yeah, you’re prolly right… it was the stuff in the vermouth that did it. nudge, nudge, wink, wink I am, however, having problems understanding how not having a proper glass warrants the use of ice! Use a freakin’ jelly glass if need be! And leave the ice in the shaker! uh… you did use a shaker, right?

I’m quite fond of Cosmopolitans made with Absolut Currant. Those are tasty little buggers.

My sangria would count as a cocktail, since I add triple sec to it–it’s absolutely delicious and perfect for hot days.

Dry gin martini with an olive. Or a slushy margarita.
