“Same Auld Lang Syne” - Dan Fogelberg. The one true love of my life. I still get a lump in my throat every time I hear it.
You and I Eddie Rabbit and Crystal Gayle
Van Morrison- Brown Eyed Girl
Am I the only one who thinks Harli went to the world’s coolest junior high?
I forgot, I had two “first love” songs, the second scarier than the first:
Leather and Lace - Stevie Nicks/Don Henley.
Love Bites- Def Leppard
“You’re the Inspiration” by Chicago.
“Heart Shaped Box” by Nirvana
Time by The Alan Parsons Project, from The Turn of a Friendly Card
My first boyfriend and I got together at my senior prom. There I was at my senior prom, never had a beau and was frustrated with myself and I wanted something to happen! Unchained Melody came on, so I went over to him (because he was the nearest guy, and he looked really good that night) and I asked him to dance. So we danced to that song, then went outside and smooched for awhile. We were together for two years.
Sigh. Ah, the memories.
“Sherry” by the Four Seasons
(sigh) I am so old (sigh)
“Bizarre Love Triangle” (the Frente! version)
“Ripple” by the Grateful Dead.
Don’t Let Me Down, by the Beatles.
My boyfriend and I were best friends before we started dating…best friends and not dating primarily because he didn’t know if I’d be interested, and because everyone told me he was probably gay because he’d never made a move.
We’re both huge Beatles fans, and one night last winter he came over and we ranked, in order, every Beatles song in the order of which we mutually liked them. He’d brought over the Blue Album, which I didn’t have, and which also contained the last couple Beatles songs I’d never heard before.
Mudshark says, “I think this one should be in the top five,” of Don’t Let Me Down. I’d never heard it. We put it on. Sat next to each other, not saying anything. From the way he looked at me I got the first bit of hope back, thinking that maybe there was a chance here after all. I became certain he was going to kiss me, then equally certain he wouldn’t, and terrified of either venue.
He didn’t.
The track ended. Dead silence.
Eventually I said, “Definitely top five,” and we went back and forth and eventually talked ourselves into placing it number one. (God, did my father freak out when he saw we’d picked that over While My Guitar Gently Weeps).
We’re dating now, and that, along with Pink Floyd’s “Echoes” “Playground Love” by Air, and Jefferson Airplane’s “ReJoyce” are all those kind of songs for both of us. “Don’t Let Me Down” is still the best, though.
“Without you”, by Harry Nilsson
Foolonthehill, you think * you’re* old ?
“All for You” by Sister Hazel.
If it comes on the radio now, I cry.
Relationships suck.
My wife and I have a few songs that are special to us… the song that reminds us both of our “first love” with one another is “Mandolin Rain” by Bruce Hornsby and the Range. I put it on a mix tape I made for her, and it’s still stuck with us after 12 years of marriage.
Well, I don’t know about first love, but my first girlfriend insisted that that “As I Lay Me Down” song by Sophie B. Hawkins was ‘our song.’ I hated that song.
“Tired of Being Alone” by Al Green.
NOTHING gets you in the mood like putting on an Al Green album, let me tell you.

I Don’t Like Mondays - Boomtown Rats… first time I ever got to second base
Now THAT’S a positive, uplifting love sing!
