As an aside, when I was a little kid (and every bit the tomboy I am now) I was in Blue Birds, which is a little-kid precursor to Camp Fire Girls. They had a ceremony where we all got “Indian names,” and I was so excited because I thought I was going to get something cool as befit my tomboy nature. Instead they slapped me with something stupid and girly like “Little Flower” or some such. The fact that I remember this almost forty years later should probably disturb me.

Two Dogs Fucking
Is the two-dogs thing a common joke? Because I’ve seen references to it in Terry Pratchett and Robert Rankin.
I wish I could help but my knowledge in this particular area is pretty limited. I do remember going to visit some of my grandfather’s relatives in Canada when I was in first or second grade. We visited someone who was a Chippewa medicine man and my mother asked about getting her indian name. He said she would have to spend the night and wait until sunrise but I don’t remember any other info than that. We weren’t planning on staying that long so she never got it. I have heard from others that it has to be given by an indian medicine man/woman and that you have to sit in a sweathouse for a long long time. Beyond that I couldn’t tell you if you have to have a vision or if the medicine man does or what. If I ever do it, I’ll be sure to post the procedure here (if it’s not in violation of the culture, that is)
