Well you’d be most welcome.
Unfortunately my school charges £14,000 (about $21,000) per year.

I’m a Lab Assistant in a computer lab at Ball State University. You may be asking yourself what does a lab assistant do? Well I do troubleshooting, customer service, fix machines, monitor a testing lab, do call support, open the lab everyday, and close the lab on Fridays. You know that makes me sound awfully important but out of 8 hours a day I’m there I do the most of about 45 minutes - 1 hour of work. But anyways I love my job and eventually I’ll be a supervisor!
I do tech support for DataComm Warehouse. We are part of the Microwarehouse family. I support the networking equipment that we sell, telling the sales people what it is and the customers how to use it.
I love my job or at least I tell myself that every day
I don’t know if it’s good form to dredge up old posts, but I can’t sleep and was going down SDMB memory lane.
It’s neat to read this now, because when I first posted this, I didn’t ‘know’ anyone…and now I do.
and figured I would link to this thread anyway…
well, there are a lot of new faces around here.
so tell me… what is your job?
My degree is Chemical & Process Engineering. I am currently working in the oil industry in Europe as a Field Engineer on the drilling and exploration side. I work in the office and offshore designing jobs and operating pumping equipment. I am a female in a male dominated industry and I love helping remove peoples preconcieved ideas about me and what I do. I love my job - no two days the same.
I’m an Aircraft Dispatcher. I’m licensed by the FAA to do all the planning that goes into every scheduled airline flight. I’m also tasked with operational safety, both before and during the flight, which means I share operational authority with the captain of the flight. Any FAR part 121 carrier in the US is required to have dispatchers who plan and control flights and I work for one of the largest. I work in a big control center at the corporate headquaters and I have all kinds of neat reources at my figtertips. All in all, it’s a fun job, plus I get flight benefits and I can ride on cockpit jumpseats.
It’s kind of difficult to explain to people what I do. People frequently get my job confused with an Air Traffic Controller, but they work for the government, not the airlines, and their main job is to keep airplanes from hitting each other.* I worry about fuel plans and weather.
Even though I don’t sniff glue, occasionally I’ll tell people that I have the same job as Lloyd Bridges’ character in ** Airplane! ** , the movie. His character was the Chief Dispatcher for that fictional airline and is probably the most recognizable representation of my job.
Consarnit, I proofread that post at least three times and it wasn’t until I posted it that I noticed that resources was spelled wrong. Argh!
However, that gives me a chance to post a few clarifications.
Almost any airline that flies airplanes that carry over 19 people is an FAR part 121 carrier.
As far as “neat” resources go, I have access to ASD which allows me to track aircraft worldwide. I have real time radar for many of the largest airports and a communications system that allows me to talk to aircraft world wide (a combination of radio and satellite based voice comm and text messaging).
I am the Production/Technical Manager for the US division of a German universal joint company.
Go to Contacts/Elbe USA, that’s me in the middle
I used to do seasonal labor work for a local peach cannery, until they closed down and moved too far away. [I took it personally.]
Now I’m looking for anything unskilled, and not too draining physically–I’m not 19 anymore.
For a full-time job I fly around taking pictures of and writing articles about military aircraft for the man. The man pays well and has good benefits. Once in a while I guide fly fishers on trout streams. I tie flies for a few people. I free-lance pix/articles/layout/editing every so often.
Real estate paralegal. Only been doing this for a few months but it’s the best job I’ve ever had. Started out hating it, but learned a ton and now feel at least semi-competent. I really like playing a part in people’s dream of home ownership.
I am a commercial real estate agent and a CCIM. I sell and lease commercial real estate all the way from 2,000 sq ft retail boxes and downtown office buildings to 200,000 sq ft shopping centers and 300,000 sq ft manufacturing plants. I tend to sell a lot of the large industrial properties in the region.
I am also a minor league PC Mr. Fixit and a bad but sincere poet.
I have to agree that glee has one of the best jobs in the world.
Best. Job. Ever.
I am a military photojournalist. I write and take photos for a US Army newspaper. For now at least.
Looks like I’ll be getting out sooner than later, so I’m beginning my search for applicable professions in the civvie world.
I can’t wait.
I really hope I can get a damn job!
I am a Production Technician at a Paper Mill.[sub]read: peeon[/sub]
We recycle old paper into new paper.
Saving thousands of trees every year.
I manage a team of 15 associates in a call center for a somewhat well-known credit card company. I’m also a part-time student, learning to be an ASL interpreter.
how’s that for boring?
I am an undiscovered Singer in a Contemporary Jazz, Bossa Nova, Pop Band, with hopes of becoming an undiscovered paidSinger very soon!! I also work with kids
I am an event coordinator for a small technology symposium in Ottawa Canada. I mostly handle registrations, but I also book spaces, order equipment, and buy beer.
I’m the CEO and sole employee of Kitchen Vixen Homemade Soaps, which isn’t exactly going to put me on easy street, so I recently got a part time job stocking cards for Hallmark. It’s actually turning out to be pretty cool. I pretty much work whenever I feel like it, have no co-workers, and get to use as much or little creativity as I feel like. The downside is I have to listen to whatever light contemporary pop music the stores are playing, and for some reason the Tweety cards just make me irate. Seems like the most mis-shelved cards are Tweety, and they always say something asinine like “Ooowpsie! I fowgowt your birfday!” PUKE!
Disaffected College Student
Administrative assistant for a children’s literacy organization, plus full-time college student in computer & information systems (specialty in database management).
I hope to be a children’s librarian some day…my present day job is interesting, though. I process grant applications and respond to a variety of phone calls/emails from folks who we aren’t necessarily able to help–I do try to refer them to an organization that can assist them, though that isn’t always possible (like the wacky letter from the person who stated he hadn’t had “positive cash flow” since 1993 and thought he could be a spokesperson for our organization.)
