Even so, if she turned up at the event looking visibly unwell or injured, I’d imagine word would leak out. If not, I think that would feed the theory that she’s just sick of Trump and the never-ending circus and is doing the absolute minimum required of her until either the administration or the marriage is put out of its misery.

Yes, I would be utterly shocked, to the point that I’d be convinced it was actually a murder attempt made to look like suicide. Not for a single moment would I believe that she would leave Baron alone to be raised by that man, or (more likely) as a second-class citizen of Ivanka’s household.

As for Melania, I assume that either she’s fed up and gone off to NYC to spend some time alone with Barron, or she is recuperating quietly somewhere after some minor medical procedure (possibly involving her kidneys). I’m not going to assume assault without more evidence.
If you think about it, most Presidential couples have been pretty good marriages, even when you look in the closet. The Reagans and Carters seemed like happy couples. The first Bush is said to have dallied, but he and Barbara seemed happy in their marriage anyway. For all Bill Clinton’s voracious adultery, his arrangement with Hillary carries on as strong as ever.
In a sense, of course, perhaps this is to be expected; becoming President is an insanely difficult thing, and it sees likely that a disproportionate number of men who has accomplished it would have to have wives who are both supportive and equally dedicated.

Here’s my Melania theory: the “a rich old man, and she won’t have to worry” life plan seemed like a good idea to her at the time, but it’s proved far more soul-deadening than she anticipated. Barron’s probably her only reason for continuing to exist at this point. No way she’d abandon him to The Donald.
