what's your one "movie from the last 30 years that everyone in the world has seen", but you haven't?

Damn calendar. What the hell is 19-freaking-88 doing being 30 years ago already?

See, MY problem is that I ONLY like to watch movies with a lot of beatings or torture or extreme suffering, and Hollywood just hasn’t been meeting my high standards over the past 30 years.

He’s right. See The Incredibles.

Not seeing Twilight is an extremely good call.

True story, I once had a boss who was very into Twilight, and I had to read all the novels and go to the movies with him and agree that all of it was totally dreamy. I have no idea what all that was about, but he’s a good guy who still gives me glowing references. Supposedly we’re both extremely heterosexual and not at all 15-year-old girls.

You mean you didn’t *read *the OP.
mmm

Die Hard. I’m sure I’ve seen bits and pieces on cable but I can’t tell you anything about it except the endless Christmas film debate.

There’s a whole lot of major movies that I haven’t seen, but probably the most surprising to those who know me would be the Hobbit movies, given that I’m a Tolkien fan.

I propose a change to "What’s [my] one “movie from the last 30 years that everyone in the world has seen”, but * haven’t, [and want to see?]

Umm, there’s umm, errr, hmmm…nevermind.

No don’t. See The Incredibles 2.

Am I the only one wondering what the quotables from either of these movies were? I’ve seen both of them. All I could think of is “America, fuck yeah!”

I’m rone-ry…

Yes, Hollywood just hasn’t been able to make a great torture porn movie since Cary Grant retired.

I read the “Hunger Games” series and saw the first two movies, but I have no desire to see the “Mockingjay” movies (that book was made into two movies). I also haven’t seen “Top Gun” or “Napoleon Dynamite.”

One movie that was almost universally critically reviled but stayed in my local theater, like forever, and is still played regularly on TV is “Deuce Bigelow, Male Gigolo.” Never saw that, either, nor have I seen “Pretty Woman” for that matter.

May I recommend the podcast “Never Seen It”. It has on guests who have never seen a famous movie and they write and read their own screenplay of what they think the movie is like. Some of them are hilarious.

See Sky High.

Mean Mr. Mustard, a certain amount of minor thread drift is inevitable. Little Nemo’s posts might not have strictly matched the exact criteria of the OP, but they’re on the same general topic. There’s no need to get hostile with him.

FWIW:

The Godfather (again) 46 years ago.
Top Gun (again): 32 years ago. (Currently filming a sequel.)
Die Hard: 30 years and 5 months. Judges? Bzzzt. Sorry, the board goes back.

Me, neither. I know it’s a ‘great film’ but there’s something about the endless, mindless admiration of actions of a truly evil group of sub-humans that I find repulsive. I don’t find them winsome or humorous, or cute in any way.

Same with ‘Pretty Woman’ - I find the whole idea repellent, despite Julia Roberts’ smashing fashion sense and bubbly braying laugh.

Titanic

I haven’t seen “Brokeback Mountain” either.
