What's your Pocket Knife?

Another happy Kershaw owner here. I’ve got one of their “assisted opening” knives - a twitch of the thumb and the blade snaps open. Having a one-handed knife has been really convenient on many an occasion.

I have this that I bought in Switzerland 10 years ago (not that the ones they sell are any different). I keep it in a drawer in the house and use the blade, the screw driver pretty frequently. And, the tip of the can opener is great for phillip’s head screws.

I also have a knife like the leatherman micro, but a cheap knock-off I got in a hardware store for like $4.95. It stays in the box where I keep my weed and I just use it for the repairs and cleaning of paraphenelia. It’s pieces are encrusted with resin.

I got it like 5 years ago. It’s probably the best 5 bucks I ever spent.

I’ve never heard that one. What is the signifigance of the dollar?

I have a gerber multi-tool that I travel with and a Buck Metro

The superstition relates to the giving of knives.’ It is said to ‘cut’ the relationship between you and the person you give the gift too. If you ask them to pay a penny - or any amount really - then they have bought the gift and the relationship will stay intact.

Victorinox Explorer, 15 years. Though I may have to get one of these, with the LED flashlight and a USB drive.

Mine’s a little knife with a blade, scissors, and a file. It also has a red LED in it. I picked it up in Switzerland about five years ago.

A lt-wt Spyderco Delica w/ a plain edge. Fits my hand very well and is easy to carry in any mode of dress. The one hand opening feature is quite useful too.

I have a Victorinox Cyber 34, http://www.oregonknifeshop.com/swisarcyb.html , though I just found the little pin in it today, after looking at that picture. Sucha handy tool, with allen heads even!

I’m a knife collector, but I usually leave the fancy ones at home. I carry a clever little design called a Shrade Simon SS1. Folded up, it can hide behind a credit card, and it’s only about twice as thick as a credit card. It has a graceful shape, has a hang clip, can be opened and closed with one hand, and the blade locks.

I carry a Gerber roper’s knife with a half-serrated blade. I mostly just use it on hay bales.

I’ve seen too many wrecks get worse because someone didn’t have a knife on them to cut the rope, and the clip on the top means you can get to it fast. That’s important when a horse is panicking.

Here’s another Schrade Simon link, straight from the horse’s mouth.

Technically not a pocket knife, but I always carry my handy-dandy Trapdoor Springfield take-down tool.

Two screwdrive blades and a pin-punch.

A small (about 2" long) knife that was probably a promotional item in the 30s. It is shaped like a woman’s leg from the mid-thigh down, and her skirt is riding up over her knee. It says “Drink Nehi 5 cents a bottle.”

I don’t carry it, but my grandfather did and I have it in the fire-box at home.

KEYRING: 2" penknife

BRIEFCASE: folding multitool thingy that incorporates pliers, phillips screwdriver, flathead screwdriver, scissors, 3" knife blade, can opener, awl, file, and saw. Clunky, but so very handy when you need it…

Depends on what I’m doing and what I’m wearing. At the office, I carry a Gerber like this one. Out hiking, I carry a larger lockback Kershaw.

I have a collection of handmade knives for outdoors, fishing, etc. For fileting, I have a handmade knife, a Rapala for small fish, and an adjustable knife made by Cutco.

I’ve had multi-tools over the years, but generally don’t like them. They all seem to have design or use flaws, resulting in cuts or pinched fingers.

Just to be different, I have a Topeak Alien. It’s got a knife somewhere in there.

I’ve got a Leatherman PST somewhere around here. I only use it when I go camping, though.

For work, I just carry a standard box knife. Target doesn’t really like it when people bust out big knives at work.

What I want though is one of these.

I like to carry a small SwissArmy knife that has a pen. That pen has come in handy so many times! The latest model also has a flashlight and is called Midnight Manager.
