What's your ringtone?

For my family: Ghostbuster theme
For everyone else: The Muppet Show theme

It makes me happy when my phone rings!

Ode to Joy. I’ve been fruitlessly searching for an American vendor who has a polyphonic version of Molly Malone.

Mine is Kashmir, Led Zepplin. Simple ringtone though, not the real music.

Currently my ringtone is Touch Me, The Doors. If I’m having a bad week, I switch it to Beast of Burden, The Rolling Stones.

Mine’s a little ding-a-ling sound that’s called “Euro Phone” for some reason. It actually does kind of sound like an actual phone ringing. That’s why I use it, because all of the other ones are music or weird beeping noises. Also it makes me feel Euro-Chic.

Anyone figured out how to create a custom ringtone and upload it to a phone yet? For example a line ripped from a DVD or a special excerpt of a MP3?

I’ve been tempted to record myself shouting, ‘RING!’ for my ringtone; but I still like Peter Gunn.

To totally oversimplify, it depends on what kind of phone you have. Some have more capabilities in the ringtone department than others.

Like elfbabe, my ringtone is also Zelda music. It’s just the main Zelda theme. It’s one of those phones where you punch in the ringtone yourself. I found it on a website, punched it in, and modified it until it sounded right.

Yep - that’s how I do it with my Motorola. Any MP3 can be edited down (I keep it at ~20 seconds), then I can upload to a website and point my phone there and download it, or I use a data cable to transfer directly from my computer.

Currently I switch between Glasgow Love Theme from the Love Actually soundtrack, and the main theme from The Black Stallion movie soundtrack. Not that I ever have my phone on, but now that classes are done I’ll probably have it on more. I am so afraid that it will ring during class that I rarely turn it on, except when I need to make a call.

I don’t like polyphonic ringtones at all (which somewhat sucks because my phone has a half-decent rendition of Canon in D on it, but I like my phone to sound somewhat like a phone, thank you). So I picked Flight of the Bumblebee instead, although I’ve got it set to ring and vibrate–my phone is really quiet and I often can’t hear it ring while I’m out–and I’m tempted to set it to just vibrate, which I swear is at least as loud as the ringtone when it’s not on me.

I have KISS Detroit Rock City, unless of course it’s my wife calling, then its the Law and Order Theme. Don’t want to know what that says about our relationship.

Mine’s usually set to vibrate, but when it rings, it plays Tubular Bells (or, as I like to think of it, the Exorcist Theme).

My favorite ringtone is a thing called “Danger Girl” which came with my old T-Mobile Sidekick, but when I changed phones (to an AT&T Samsung) I couldn’t find it for that one.

No offense to anybody who has it and just hasn’t responded yet, but I find it heartening to see that nobody admits to having that stupid frog making motorcycle noises that’s apparently insanely popular in Europe. I listened to it once online just to hear what all the fuss was about, found it annoying as hell, and gave thanks that it seems not to have caught on in the US.

When I discovered that my phone could use any MP3 file as a ringtone, I briefly had it play the little boy saying “YOU DIRTY NAMBLA!” from the end of Turbonegro’s “Midnight NAMBLA.”

Then I switched it back to “ring ring,” because it’s technically my employer’s phone.

If I didn’t find polyphonic ringtones mostly annoying, I’d probably use the opening bars to “Iron Man.”

Hmm, so you’re saying that your Motorola inherently undertsands MP3 format and is able to d/l the file and store it as a ringtone? Cool beans.

I’ve got an older Spint PCS Samsung N400 which probably is less user friendly than that. I need a new phone I guess.

I work with a woman whose cell phone has a ring tone that sounds like an old phone ringing, like phones used to sound in the 50s and 60s. It’s this neat old “ba-riiiing!” sound.

I just switched; I originally used “Spring” (from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, I believe), that came with my phone – but I just downloaded the Fellowship theme from Lord of the Rings.

I have some customized ringers for family members:

SWMBO - Chariots of Fire
The Teenage Terror - Wm. Tell Overture
Private or Blocked numbers - X-files theme

But since I run a Taekwondo school and we forward the school number to my cellphone when we’re not in the school, it’s only appropriated that I have Mortal Kombat as my main ringer

Currently using a truncated version of “The Glory Days” from The Incredibles soundtrack, though I’ve also got “The Incredits” (also from the soundtrack) and “Corneria” (from Nintendo’s original Starfox) on the phone, for when I get bored. I also have “Roger me! Wilco me! Anything! Hello, hello!” for voice mail notifications.

I don’t really care about “kewl” ringtones, I just want something that’s (a) loud enough to hear in a noisy place and (b) is distinctive enough so I know it’s my phone making the racket…

Back in Black - AC/DC

I love my ringtone.

So far it’s the only one I’ve downloaded, and it plays no matter who is calling. Sometimes I think about setting the phone to play AC/DC just for callers who are in my contacts list, but my phone rings so infrequently (when it isn’t on vibrate/silent) that I probably wouldn’t notice a difference.
