What's Your Shaving Preference?

Pits, twice a week, unless I’m gonna wear a tank top. Then I make sure to shave that day. I use a Gilette Sensor Excel for Women and soap.

Legs: I am a lazy, lazy woman. I have been man-less since Easter and am not currently looking, so it may be a few weeks between shaves. I use the above mentioned razor and some cheep conditioner. Much better than cream and it moisturizes. If I get really shaggy I will wax.

Bikini? Ouch. Once a week max. Once again, should it get really shaggy, I pull out the wax.

I have sensitive skin, and a beard that is only moderately heavy but grows at a very steep angle, rather than perpendicular to my skin. Hard to get a smooth shave without scraping down to the bone, but I have finally found a way that works.

First, soak face with wet washcloth, for a long time. (Shaving after showering is better, but by then the mirror is all steamed up.) Next, lather up (gel, not foam) and shave once with one of those wet/dry electrics. Then rinse and soak again. Finally, lather up again (more lightly this time) and shave with a blade. Against the grain, because my skin is so pale that if the shave isn’t real close, it looks like I haven’t shaved at all. The blade I like best is the Shick Advantage, but it’s getting hard to find. When I find them, I buy enough to last me a year.

And I try to skip at least one day a week. The one day that I get a really good shave is the day after I skip.

Mach 3 with King of Shaves Shave Gel. every 2 days.
p.s. and the more I read by Irishgirl, the more I want to go on a pub crawl with her.

Norelco electric. I don’t trust myself with a sharp object at my throat when I wake up. When I have to go to work. Usually not on weekends. I dislike shaving.

Usually about every other day, in the shower, Edge gel for sensitive skin, 4" straight razor*, no mirror, by feel, cheeks, chin, neck, and scalp.

*OK, so I don’t use the straight razor every time. I only use it when I haven’t shaved for a week or more and my hair gets too long for my Gilette Sensor Excel, but I really do occasionally shave my head with a straight razor and no mirror. Total number of cuts: about 25; once behind the ear and about 24 more on my fingers while dragging for stubble.

Every morning, I drive by one of those billboards a couple of times, and my face is smooth as a really smooth thing.

I use a Gilette Sensor razor(I think that’s the name) on legs and pits. I do my pits every day, and my legs every couple days. My bikini area I use a either new disposable razor each time, maybe once a week, or I use my electric razor a couple times a week. My shaving lotion of choice is Coochy Cream[sup]tm[/sup] – it’s the only thing that keeps me from razor rash on my bikini area.

Wahl beard trimmer. On setting 3 where I want the facial hair, and without the “guard” for the cheeks and neck and to keep my mustache at a manageable lenagth.

Before I shower.

In the shower, every other day, with Aveeno Oatmeal Shaving gel (doesn’t clog pores!) and a reverse-engineered 3-blade cartridge for a Sensor razor handle. A Czech company makes the blades. I tried the Mach 3 and HATED it- it doesn’t do precise work. I can’t shape my side-burns easily, and getting the little dimples and such around my mouth and nose is almost impossible with that thing. The engineered blades work great!

I wonder if that laser hair-removal will ever be safe to do on men’s faces. I’ve heard they can sometimes leave a scar…

Where do you get such a thing??

Every other day (I have a light colored beard, so I can get away with it)…in the shower with the Walgreens brand version of Mach 3, and the Walgreens brand version of Edge gel with aloe.

After shower. after shave aloe gel (The Body Shop brand) to soothe the skin.

Where do you get such a thing??

Gilette Mach III and some kind of shaving cream (no especial preference). Electric razors have never really worked for me.

Shaving is such a pain in the arse, isn’t it? I think this winter I might try growing a full beard.

Hey! CMKeller and I have something in common!

My wife got me a rechargable beard trimmer 2 years ago. Greatest invention in the world. I set it for 3 in the winter, 2 in the summer. I haven’t shaved my face in 5 years now, and my wife starts getting defensive if I think about it. She loves my beard. I do too, after finding my drivers license picture from when I was 18. Juliana’s comment was “Hey, you look like you could have marched with Castro!” sigh  I had a goatee once, but we won’t talk about that.

Back when I started shaving (about 13, 8th grade), I quickly went from once every three days to once a day. It was so bad I would have a 5’ o clock shadow by 3pm. I started growing a mustache when I was 16, and have kept it ever since. Now all I have to do these days is recharge the trimmer every 3 months.

Oh yeah, before I shower. Wet beard doesn’t cut well.

[Sweeney Todd moment] His hands were quick, his fingers strong.
It stung a little, but not for long. [/Sweeney Todd moment]

Suckers! I don’t shave, but I trim my beard with an electric trimmer once every 2 weeks.

Women shave their legs because they’ve been taught to love the smooth look/feel. But why do men shave? To satisfy women’s desire for smoothness? To look sexually immature? To look like women? Cecil should know, but I couldn’t find anything.

According to Guardian Unlimited,

There’s gotta be a more convincing explanation.

In order of frequency: I use a Gillette Sensor daily on my crotch (not the bikini line - the whole thing) at the sink, with no shaving creme, gel, or whatever. A Mach3 on my legs for special occasions   always in the bath, with whatever shower gel is handy. About once a month, I check for the rogue blonde hair that used to grow out of my upper arm, but I think that follicle wore itself out. I shave the few hairs in my pits every 6 months or so with the leg razor.

The face gets done 5-7 days a week: Mach 3, Edge gel
the head goes 3-5 days a week: In the shower, no gel

On a side note, I bought some epilstop or whatever, where you spray it on and wipe away the hair, but it just gave me a chemical burn. D’Oh!!!

After the shower, Mach 3, 4-5 days a week. I’m a recent convert to the Mach 3, previously using Gilette disposables.
I stopped using shaving cream/gel several years back, after one too many times I cut into my goatee ‘cause I couldn’t see the edge of it through the cream. (Why yes, I AM an idiot). Instead I used good ol’ fashioned soap and hot water.

With the Mach 3, I don’t even use soap. The thing I love about the Mach 3 is that I can shave with the grain and still have my cheeks/neck come out baby soft. Fact is, with that puppy I could probably dry shave. 'Course, that would clog up the blades mighty fast, so hot water for me.

Pits once or twice a week and legs every four days or so (works out to once a week), unless I’m going to be dressed in such a way that people will see either pits or legs, in which case I make it a point to shave that body part that morning. Bikini area only on the rare occasion that somebody’s likely to see it. I have one of those Venus razors (it was an Easter gift, imagine that), and I use some kind of gel that I bought that was cheap.
