What's Your Username Mean?

Lol, what were your other usernames? Candi? LMAO

I adopted my moniker in honor of the real Thorstein Veblen. Hey, it seemed like a good idea at the time.

To say he was eccentric is like saying water’s wet. He was rather a loon but a brilliant loon. He saw things other people didn’t, stuff that seems so obvious in hindsight, and he wrote like a dream. IMO he deserves to be remembered so I adopted his name in homage.

Veb
[sub]BTW, I’m female. Details, details.[/sub]

The little dude from Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood

Most of them involve the words ‘kitty’ or ‘cat.’ So you know where that goes. Go figure.

I think my paranoia mode was in overdrive the day I registered.

Mine’s easy. I’m a cop.

I thought at first about using a name that wouldn’t give that away, since I’ve often met antagonism towards cops on other boards. However, I trusted that people on the SDMB would be different, and I was right. I’ve been welcomed without reservation, and it has been nice to be able to share my experiences with such people.

snicker Fer instance?

Well, it suits you.

No wonder I like you so much. Everyone knows about bears and honey, right?

Oh, and your point about bears is exactly why I have the sig I have. It got really tiresome, on some other boards, having to tell guys (and, it was ALWAYS guys) that no, it wasn’t code for anything.

Oops! Topaz, I forgot to mention this, before. It’s a nickname given to me by an online girlfriend, long ago. I liked it, it suits me, and I kept it, long after we went our separate ways. The teddy/grizzly part is from her original definition, but it’s evolved since then. She coined it, one night, after watching me verbally shred some pinhead who was annoying us. I guess, up until that time, she hadn’t realized there was more to me than the “cute and cuddly” side.

The “smarter than the average bear” bit was bestowed upon me when I knocked the former leader in a running online trivia game, on a board I visited, out of first place in a single afternoon. The Yogi reference derives from that, obviously. And, I just decided to put it all together, as a definition.

For a while, in places where sigs had to be shorter, I used variations along the lines of “51% Teddy/49% Grizzly - Subject to change without notice”. On one board I used to frequent, they even “invented” a Bearometer, that they used to guage my mood.

So, I like my username. It offers so many possibilities for inventiveness, even if it does, sometimes, attract unwanted attention. Damn, I’m long-winded, tonight.

Branwen is the celtic goddess of love and beauty. That had nothing to do with why I picked it, though. I just liked the name.

I’ve always been a cat lover.

i just combined two of my cousin’s names. they’re persian names and pronounce a bit differently.

shadi- the a is said ah
roxan- the o is said oh and a is ah

i just liked the way it sounded together. started using in about five years ago and it stuck

One night I was very drunk and trying to register for a Yahoo games thingie. I tried a large number of usernames, all of which were already being used. While I was sitting there trying to think of another one to try, one of my internal voices made a sarcastic comment that I don’t remember. It made me laugh. I said aloud “True, all too true.” Then I looked down at the upper left hand side of my keyboard and saw that this would be an easy thing to type even if you were very drunk.

The rest is history.

I have interpolated several other meanings, but this is the actual story of the genesis of the name, whatever I may say in other threads.

don’t know

Mine is just my initials followed by the year in which I was born. Very unassuming and boring, I know.

Miracle worker.

Aesir’s the collective name of the Norse gods and I’ve always thought it looked cool. Unfortunately, many others do as well and improvising, I added “-on” to the end, making Aesiron.

Maddy and Strut are my dogs’ names. I’m always standing at the door to the yard yelling “Maddy Strut, Maddy Strut, Maddy Strut.” One day, a neighborhood kid asked me who “Maddystrut” was. I thought it sounded kind of cute, so I used that as my screen name.

Well, I work in a zoo, of course!

I’ve also got a LARGE number of pets at home. (Think dozens.)

It’s in lower case for the simple reason that I’m kinda lazy!

i once killed a man because he looked at me funny (turns out he had a lazy eye, who knew?!), but with his dying breath he screamed “Tars Tarkas!” and i’ve used that name ever since to remind me to ask if someone is lazy eyed before i kill them.

Cletus is my favorite charater from the simpsons.

PS Does anyone know what Cletus’s last name is?

You know, I didn’t know until last month or so (perhaps a week before Mr. Rogers died) that King Friday was King Friday XIII. It suddenly all made sense to me.

As for mine, well, all the others I tried were “already in use.” Who knows if it describes me well, but it sort of reminds me of the idea from the Book of Ecclesiastes that there is nothing new under the sun.
