Doggio, if you could pay me even half of what I (theoretically) make now, I’d come work for you in a second.
The best part of being sick is how good being healthy feels.
Anyone want to talk about food now?
Off to the market to buy ingredients for my easy raspberry trifle, for a party tonight.
Yum!
I’m being lazy, so I’ll just second everything swampy said here. Also, for Bobbio: what 3acres said. I’m grateful that people are willing to be EMTs, because I’d melt into a little puddle if I had to do that regularly.
Sorry for the icky morning, Pie.
I wrote a post this morning, but then the computer locked up and it was time for me to leave for the park, so it went unposted. Halloween is now up at the park. Yay! Looks pretty. (Some of it looks a little bit spooky, but mostly it tends toward the fun side because there are lots of little kids that wander around.)
Yay for feeling better, Soapy!
Speaking of food…gotta go find lunch (NOL).
Back later.
GT
Good morning! (It’s still morning, right? ;))
I’m back from the dog park, and I’ve washed two doggies and myself. I just had leftovers for lunch - salmon and wild rice and salad.
Hubby has been garage salin’ to look for frames and mirrors for the “hall of mirrors.” I’ve decided to decorate the hallway with tons of mirrors. It will look cool with all the reflected light!
In a minute we’re going to go early vote.
Goin’ to Pappadeaux for dinner. Yum! Ponchartrain Sauce is so good… it has scallops and shrimp and crawfish tails in a brown sauce, smothered over a nice piece of “catch of the day.” Might get me some raw oysters, too.
Great post, 3acres. I wish Bobbio, or your guys lived near me.
[rant]The first time I thought I was having a heart attack, we called the ambulance and the ‘EMT’ spent 20 minutes in the back of the rig trying to put in a ‘centrel line’ before he would let the driver start 'er up and transport. I coulda walked there faster.
The second time, when I was having a heart attack, I made Wifey drive me to the hospital, 'cause I wanted to go there NOW.
Yes, I talked to my Son-in-law, a real EMT, about it, and very nearly filed a complaint, but I figgered just letting it get back to the Chief would be sufficient.[/rant]
I don’t understand what you’re talking about Mouse, Cookies? Going stale?
That never happens at our house. ![]()
Well, I missed 5-year-old grandson’s soccer game this morning, 'cause the dog wouldn’t let me out of bed.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Wifey went without me to represent.
I’ll go to 12-year-old granddaughter’s game later, and tonight we’re going to the Chamber of Commerce auction.
Oh, I forgot to tell you, somehow we (The Soapy Bear) are (is?) sponsering the restrooms at the auction. We went over last night and decorated them. You can’t make this stuff up.
I suppose I should get in the shower now.
Later.
Back from taking Smokey yo the vet for her annual. She’s got middle aged spread (she’s 9) she used to weigh between 7 and 7.5 lbs each year - last year and this, she’s about 9 lbs
I may regret askin’ but… Bumba just how did you decorate the bathrooms?
The followin’ announcement is for Puggy…
THE BACK PORCH IS CLEAN!!!
![]()
Also, I filled up the hottub and cleaned the filters. It’s now warmin’ up. There’s also a bottle of champagne chillin’ in the fridge. Guess what we’re doin’ tonight!
I took some Brunswick Stew out of the freezer for dindin tonight. I have some frozen rolls thawin’ to go with. I’m of the opinion that it originated in Brunswick, Jawja, just so y’all know.
I feel the need for a nappy poo.
Later Y’all!
Hey! My cat is named Smokey, too!
I think we’d discussed that already, no? Exceptm isn’t your Smokey all grey? Mine is a tortie-tabby mix (tortie body with tabby tail and forehead)
Maaayyybeee. Oh, now I’m repeating my stories. I need a life to get more stories…
{{{Bobbio}}} It’s hard, I know–several good friends were EMT’s and one of my best friends is an ICU nurse. I have tremendous respect for you, especially, because you volunteer to go through this hell. Also, what 3AT said.
Haze needs to come back and say hi in person, 'cuz I miss her and I said so! Hear me, young lady? Don’t make me get out my trout, now!
Thanks doggio, I’m a-hopin’ they wave enough money under my nose to justify me saying yes… From the info I got the route looks like about 250 miles per day, which would be just about a tank of fuel for me–call it thirty gallons. Propane’s running around $2.80 although I haven’t shopped around much, so that’s about $85/day just for fuel. They’ll have to be offering around $250/day with the mileage portion paid as non-taxable reimbursement to make it worth my while so we’ll see. So far this outfit hasn’t struck me as being terribly generous but I have my hopes. I’m also hoping they have a commercial insurance buy-in because my carrier takes a dim view of using personal vehicles for commercial uses. That being said, I’d sure love to be back on the road again…
We had a funny thing happen last night–Pratchett was yowling and growling and scratching at the big living room window behind the couch so I looked out there and saw a family of three big fat raccoons not three feet from the window! The two smaller ones got spooked at me opening the curtains and hightailed it around the corner of the house, but Big Mama was eyeball to eyeball with Pratchett and wasn’t giving in–rearing up on her hind legs and swaying side to side like a little bear. So I got up and sicced Widget on them–he chased Mama around the corner and got face to face with her, so I called him back a bit and she followed the younguns up the cypress trees in back. I tell you what, the livestock around this place has been getting out of hand now that we don’t have SpaceDawg to regulate–she hated raccoons and used to throw herself against the fence all night when they’d get treed up there. I miss her…
My daughter says Callie’s been freaking out all over their backyard the last few nights too–I think the raccoons in her neighborhood are eyeing her toolshed out back as a likely winter hidey hole but Miss Callie says “no fuckin’ way!”
I had to cook vegetarian last night for Grandboy, so I crashed some NOT, then topped them with sauteed zucchini, red peppers and mushrooms, spread entirely too much cheddar, romano and asiago on top of that then sprinkled green onions on and baked a few more minutes to get the cheese melted. He LOVED it and had two huge helpings–boys are scary eaters when they start to shoot up! I also made a nice apple crisp since he went with me to walk the dogs and scrump some apples from a local abandoned orchard, and he had two or three big chunks of that as well. My daughter was sticking her lip out saying, “He never has seconds of MY food!” Well, yah, I’m Grandma, duh!
I’m here. I actually slept in - not till now, but I did sleep in and lay in till after 7. It was very nice.
We just finished the floors in the basement. Well, except for the grout around the last few tiles. But it looks good, for all that it’s kinda cheap flooring. And we’ve got 5 boxes, plus 2 bags of the foam underlayment to return. That should be good for a coupla bucks.
While we were doing the floor, I did 4 loads of laundry - now I’ve got a big pile of whites to fold. And I need to make a decision about dinner. And I need a shower.
Where’s the doggone Dinner Fairy??
Good afternoon everyone. The service was brief, then we went back to a place were Auntie lived for a short while to have food and socialize. Hubby and I really don’t know those family members, so we smiled, nodded, and chatted, paid our respects to other family members, noshed a little, and finally left.
It’s a good thing too, because not 10 minutes after we left, my stomach was doing flip flops and gurgling. We made it back to the house and I’ve managed to er…clear things out. I’m feeling a little better now, but have a bit of a headache.
We’re supposed to go out to dinner tonight with our friend and his girlfriend. At least I don’t have to worry about cooking.
**Pie, **I hope your day improved.
I used to have a dog named Smokey.
Bumba, I’m curious too. Just how does one decorate a public bathroom?
Bobbio, many others have already said it. I couldn’t do what you do. One of our friends is a paramedic. I know how badly he’s affected when things don’t turn out well for the patients. Still, people like you are what give people in need a much better chance of surviving the odds.
Hmm, I think I’m gonna find some Motrin.
Good luck on the job possibility, Smarty.
In from the garden, considering dinner and a trip to Whole Foods.
Got lots done outside, but there’s more to do tomorrow. Just don’t know exactly when I’ll get it done as I have to go in to work at 1:00 or so, which promises to be no fun at all.
I’m going to church before then and would like to go to brunch with my friends, but I might skip brunch to get a bit done in the garden…
Off to forage.
GT
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!
Remember how I was saying that I would be picking up my laptop today after it had been away for a month being repaired? It came back, but THEY DIDN’T FIX IT.
Ok, so they did fix the occasionally flashing LCD screen. But that was a secondary problem that didn’t really bother me but I thought I’d have them fix it while it was being sent out anyways. They neglected to fix the intermittently inop wireless connection which is imperative to my work since I do all of my billing online. So, it will be gone for another month.
Otherwise, though, my day was much better in between. The bonfire stuff went really well. The old phone battery seems to be holding out ok. And my nose has quit running.
{{{{{bobbio}}}}} You get an extra hug. I live just off the main highway 'round these parts and the hospital is a mile or so north of me. Earlier today I heard an ambulance go by (being so near the hospital, not an infrequent thing) and thought of you. I have all sorts of admiration for everybody who does what you do.
I have rice in the rice cooker. I’m not sure what I’m going to eat with it yet. But life without the cooker wouldn’t be worthwhile. Best. Appliance. Ever.
Apparently, the Dinner Fairy works for Famous Dave’s BBQ in Waldorf - that’s where our dinner appeared. The area where we were seated had three different groups celebrating birthdays. Lots of singing and loud chat. But the food was good and I didn’t have to clean up.
Then we stopped at the grocery on the way home for dessert to go - I got me some chocolate moose tracks - yum!!! All the better because it was on sale!
We have to move the boat tomorrow - the bow pulpit is being replaced at a different marina from where we are based. So we’ll return the excess flooring to Lowe’s, then move the boat. Once we get back home, we’ll move the fridge down to the apartment then start cutting up the plywood for the countertops. It shouldn’t be as painful a day as today was.
We got some nice rain - much needed, too. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and mid-60s - I may open the windows for a little while.
But for now, it’s chillin’ time!
I feel bad for the guy we lost, but he was old, very sick, and his time was up. His stomach emptied before we transported; when muscles like that relax, they’re gone.
Like I said, I did get to try out some of the things we’ve been taught in class the past couple of months, which was A Good Thing.
Something funny from the trip to tell: Colin the assistant chief and I were in back doing CPR, and Steve the Barber was driving. Traffic was awful, and Steve was doing a NASCAR audition with every light and noisemaker going. We were almost hit 3 times on the trip to Bugtussel, and that was only 16 miles.
I was in the captain’s chair bagging the patient, and Colin was standing up doing compressions. Colin is about 6’ 4", and outweighs me by about 50 lbs. Some moron couldn’t decide how to get out of the way. Steve braked hard, and Colin wound up in my ams and lap, because I had to catch him to keep both of us from getting hurt.
I looked at him, and he at me. I then said, “I won’t tell your wife if you won’t tell mine…”
Did you catch it?

I was so tired, I fell asleep during a Canes game. More work tomorrow, so I can be off to tailgate at the Canes game next weekend.
