The kids around here have been back in public school since August 11th. Most of the private schools have started as well. 
School started here on August 18, but the linked folks were Not Ours.
Sept 4th for me.
My daughter has been back in school for weeks now. She started back on August 7th.
That’s the earliest I’ve seen so far.

Starts Wednesday here.
Tomorrow for 1st-12th grade, but not til Sept. 3rd for pre-school. My two oldest ones will resume their homeschool work on Sept. 2nd. But I’m really excited about my youngest starting pre-school on the 3rd.
Meh. We’ve been back since August 13th. Cursed school system with its ever-shortening summers!
It starts tomorrow. Starting tomorrow, you’d better drag out the pix of me, because that’s all you’re going to see of me for a while.

Remember the Christmas Vacation Attacks™ that ended when school started back up? I’ve been told by veterans here that this kind of thing happens when the kiddies are out of school ad don’t ride their bikes or play Kick the Can™ enough.
Neither the OP nor my post is meant against young Dopers in general, though. We have some very high quality young regular posters.
Summer break started July 18th, and we head back on September 1st.

You start school in AUGUST in the USA? That’s… weird.
When does summer break start?
Normally around May 20 on such a schedule. I don’t know why the August thing caught on, but I do know that it’s beginning to “un-catch” on here in OKC, as the air conditioning requirements needed to cope with the usual August heat are insane.
Of course, this ignores the steadily-incresing phenomenon of year-round school.
