When I eat ____ , I have to eat ____ as a side dish

Anything cooked on a grill and slathered in BBQ sauce really needs to be accompanied by cole slaw. I prefer the creamy kind.

Man! I knew I liked you! I love that stuff!

For me it’s Fingerling Catfish and Grits, preferably Cheese Grits!

Pork chopsh and appleshauce… ain’t that shwell. They gotta be together…

I second thecomment about always having carrots with roast beef. Had pot roast with just the spuds and onions once and the meat didn’t taste right without the carrot essence.

Gotta have hushpuppies and beer with catfish.

I need bread, toast or bagel with eggs. I can’t eat them by themselves.

Sweet cornbread is an abomination and is not allowed in my house.

  I think we’re in the minority on the chili/peanut butter sandwich thing though.

bolding mine

Yes, another example of how great minds think alike, because I like both, except I’ve never had them together. I’ll have to try it sometime. (I usually have cornbread & fried 'taters/onions with catfish)

In defense of sweet cornbread, it ain’t half bad with chopped up jalapeno peppers and onions mixed in the batter.

Meatloaf must be accompanied by mashed potatoes. No mashed potatoes, no meatloaf.

I must have chili with saltines and a glass of milk. If I’m out of saltines or milk, I won’t eat chili.

I make my cornbread by taking two boxes and adding a can of creamed corn and cutting back a bit on the water added. Then I use the muffin pan with the great big muffin holes.
Maaannn!! Moist and soft with a bit more corn taste than the regular. We’ve gotten to where we don’t like the stuff we get at resturants. Try this with the Great Northern beans or the chilli. Good eatin’!

Not only must there be mashed potatoes, there must be green beans. No potatoes and beans no meatloaf.

I have to have eggs with toast. I can have toast by itself, but eggs MUST go with toast.

Mac and cheese is served ONLY with frozen spinach and hot dogs.

Please let me know if you have any questions, or if I can be of further assistance!

Best regards,

Two boxes of what? Around here cornmeal comes in bags.

Anyone who serves mashed potatoes without gravy should be dragged into the street and shot. There is nothing more disappointing than seeing a great big steaming bowl of mashed potatoes coming your way, putting a huge pile of them onto your plate, and realizing there. is. no. gravy.

And no, gravy is not a condiment. It belongs in its own food group.

As for other vegetables, they are best served as a side dish on someone else’s plate. Side dishes are rice, pasta, or taters (and some sort of bread) at my house!

You’re allowed to serve mashed potatoes without gravy if they are being served with salmon cakes.

You are not allowed to serve salmon cakes without mashed potatoes.

I love Ethiopian food, but I won’t serve it unless I have time to make fresh injera. Rice or some other kind of bread just doesn’t cut it.

Jiffy Mix most likely - Second to last on the page

Yes. Here is their home page Jiffy Mix
Best. Cornbread. Ever.

Which explains why I do not eat salmon cakes.

Sauteed chicken livers must be served with steamed spinach and home-made macaroni and cheese.

(Funny how nobody else mentioned this…)

Grilled salmon with wild rice and broccoli with cheese sauce.
