Ten tears late and at least seven years after anybody really cares, I finally got that stupid LOTR thread formatted and completely indexed.
Unemployment does make you do funny things.

I wasn’t aware of any actual rewrites, but we may have conflated two or more posts that were similar. Mostly it was just a cut and paste deal from the message board with misspellings and some grammatical corrections along the way.
Lordy, I forgot I’d written in the style of Lackey as well as Doc Smith.
Hope I’m not thread-jacking but has anyone tried starting a new thread for the Dopers that weren’t around 10 years ago? Or a thread for writing non-LOTR related stories in the form of another author?
I went into the original to find my post - Bram Stoker’s SAURONULA & by God, I couldn’t remember writing half of that! I’m bloody brilliant! Or I was!

I think the success of the original thread was more the result of timing than anything else. It was right in the middle of the success of the LOTR movies so there was a lot of interest besides what you would normally get from just the LOTR geeks. So I’m loathe to start another thread now. I don’t think it would be as successful and I’m certainly not going to be the one to unleash another monster into the world. I state on the website that I will accept new additions to the pile through e-mail, though.
I believe it has been tried with different authors and works, but it never worked out to this extreme.
