When is the last time you ate a hot dog?

I’m sure America has a very specific definition of what constitutes a hot dog, so I’m going to say never. When I was a kid in New Zealand, what you may call a corn dog was what we called hot dogs, and I’ve had a bajillion of those (though none in the last ten years). We also have a sausage-in-bread at any given event-slash-hardware-store-car-park, which is essentially but not actually a hot dog, and I’ve had loads of those, most recently last month.

But as specifically defined US foodstuffs are counted, I selected never. They are available here in plenty of places, I’ve just never had one.

I had a wonderful Chicago dog from Portillos yesterday. It was perfect, it had that perfect crunch from the skin, just the right amount of celery salt, it was on a perfectly steamed poppy seed bun. Of course it had all the other traditional toppings including sport peppers.

I also had a chili dog with onions. Now I’m getting hungry again just thinking about a perfect hot dog. It’s midnight and even if I were to leave the house to get food my choice would be Mickey D or Taco Bell.

Assuming it was a hot dog inside the corn breading, I’d say it qualifies. You’re still eating a hot dog, just with a different ‘topping’

Huh, and it turns out that I did get a post report; my e-mail just wasn’t showing it to me earlier for some reason.

About 4 hours ago. I had been thinking about having one for dinner since Friday. There is a Nathan’s Famous in the food court where we sometimes eat lunch during the week. I remarked that I had never, in all our visits to the food court, seen anyone ordering there or eating any of their food at the tables in the food court, yet the store persists.

My son has eaten them without the bun since he was about 11 months old. Now he is 11 years old. He will eat 2 of them, with ketchup and mustard, and a couple of sides of vegetables, and he’ll eat some kind of starch-- potatoes, corn chips, or “good” bread, like if I’ve baked some, he’ll eat a slice with butter, but he doen’t like buns with his hot dogs.

He consumes most of the hot dogs in this house, so even with 10 to a pack, and only 8 buns to a pack, we still end up buying about two packs of hots dogs for every pack of buns.

I swear, he would eat hot dogs every day, if I let him. Actually, since they’re soy, I really don’t know why I don’t just let him. They’re kind of high in sodium, but he’s 11. We’re not particularly worried about his blood pressure.

Not sure if this counts. I’ve been playing around making different sushi rolls. I’ve done Spam Musubi, egg nigiri, and hotdog maki.

I sliced a generic hotdog into long slivers, pan flash-fried them to slightly char, cooled them, then made my rolls.

I had one Friday night. One of the local pizza/deli/ convenience store places makes a hot dog “calzone” of sorts, two hotdogs and mozzarella cheese wrapped in pizza dough. It’s one of my favorite comfort food meals

I’m pretty sure I’ve had one within the last year. It’s something I really, really need to be in the mood for, and that mood rarely strikes.

Okay. Well, it wasn’t. It was a saveloy.

My MIL buys my Wife and I an Omaha Steak package for birthdays and such. It’s generally pretty good, but we have a line on VERY good beef at a local place that is just fantastic. We are a bit spoiled in that respect.

Anyway, the one thing that comes in the package are hot dogs. They are really really good. The only hot dogs my wife likes. So, I suppose it’s been about 6 weeks since we had hot dogs.

We appreciate my Wifes Moms gifts. It’s an easy and simple thing for her to do. Not having to try to pick out individual gifts.

It’s a bit of a balance to thank her for the steaks, but… um… make sure to include hot dogs!

Decades; they just aren’t my thing. I don’t find them repulsive or anything like that, just uninteresting. If I was hungry and that’s all that was available I’d eat them, but that situation hasn’t happened to me since I was a kid (and I’m 50, so that’s quite a while).

This has, of course, been addressed before:

Last Wednesday at the Kansas City airport (MCI). I had a 1/4 lb. beef chili dog, which was actually pretty good. The chili was some bland canned junk, but the dog was properly steamed and hot, the bun had been toasted, and there was plenty of chopped onions. OTOH, it cost more than a Dominos medium pizza…delivered.

I’ll never forget the time I bought some ultra-cheap dogs at the store, and they turned out to be delicious. Probably less than a buck for the pack. The only problem was that I couldn’t find the wrapper, so I don’t know the brand. I’ll occasionally buy the cheapies hoping to get lucky again, but disappointment so far.

So I’m making hot dogs tonight, because of this thread!

A couple days ago. Now, last time I’ve cooked a hot dog is a completely different question.

Assuming the OP allows “pigs in blankets” to count, I had a bunch as dinner just an hour ago, along with some cole slaw. Yummy!

As of today, just over one month ago, on July 4th.

Ditto but more like three weeks. It was a hot dog rather than the preferred Polish because they’d dropped the latter from their menu the day before.
