When is the last time you ate a hot dog?

I feel like I did that too, but maybe I didn’t hit submit…

Oh, and thanks!

Not since I developed IBS.

I had a layover in the Chicago Midway airport. I had to try the Chicago style grilled hotdog. There was a huge line. I thought I would miss my flight.

They had 30 cooked dogs waiting. I ordered one. It was luke warm, cold bun. And I thought, why are people waiting for this crap?

Totally disappointed. Chicago people don’t know hot dogs.

Well, we know enough not to get them from airport food courts selling tourist food to a captive audience :stuck_out_tongue:

Yesterday. Not a big fan but it’s one of the easiest convenience foods. My son often requests them but goes through phases. He’s either eating them 4 at a time or not for weeks. Sometimes I eat them so they don’t get thrown away when he’s off them.

Midway? Airport food, what did you expect? My favorite is from Tasty Dog in Des Planes. Not sure if it’s still open.

A few weeks ago. I’m guessing more than a month ago.

If anyone is going to be in Chicago next weekend, try to make it to the Chicago Hot Dog Fest. I’ll be the one in the faded blue Illini cap and the salt-n-pepper goatee.

Hey Hap, does a half-smoke count? I usually get one of those at the food truck at the local farmers’ market on Friday nights.

Whether it does or not, I’ve eaten a hot dog in the past month. The Firebug loves hot dogs, and I enjoy them every once in a while, but my wife hates the smell of hot dogs cooking. So when she’s out of town, the kid and I binge on hot dogs. And the last time was the weekend after the Fourth, so less than a month.

(Yeah, that’s my wild life. When my wife’s out of town, do I have a hot number on the side? Do I binge on porn? Do I play poker or go fishing with the guys? No, no, no, and no. I binge on hot dogs with my son. :))

It was a soy hot dog. Hope that counts. I absolutely hated hot dogs before I tasted my first Tofu Pup. Now I kinda like them. My son loves them, so they are always in the house.

Where I shop, everyplace has hot dog packages with eight dogs. You can get classic dogs, jumbo dogs, they come in eight to a package. Mostly Bar-S but always in every shop I go to or shop online. You can always match an 8 package of buns to an 8 pack of hot dogs.

Packaging does vary but this was common enough that I knew a marketing professor in the late 80s who had written an article about this. His conclusion was that families with small children consume some without the bun. Don’t remember the details but I was skeptical.

Sonic was advertising hot dogs (on sale) heavily three or four years ago. I bought a foot long chili cheese coney several times.

I like them, but they don’t satisfy my hunger. Then I end up snacking afterwards. It doesn’t make sense to eat a meal that leaves me hungry.

I never fix hot dogs at home. Sonic is the only place I ever order them.

You are correct. I don’t get out much.

Just wanted to have a Chicago style dog. And there it was at the airport. The menu boasted of a grilled Chicago style hot dog. I was excited! A huge line! And I thought these must be good.

But, apparently they aren’t looking for repeat business.

I won’t be back.

There are places all around town where you can get a good Chicago-style dog. One in particular is a big deli not far from the Sears (Willis) Tower. They do the “Cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger!” bit when you order something.

Your average cart vendor on the street can probably make you up one better than the one you had at the airport.

Monday. They’re $1 at the bar when baseball games are on and I was there for trivia so I got a dog.

I’m a regular hot dog eater. Get them at the ballpark and the gas station (you heard me). About every 2 or 3 grocery store trips I’ll buy a pack and some buns and eat them at home. I prefer all-beef, even at the ballpark where all-beef is like 2x the price.

Thanks. I just had only a two hour layover at the airport.

Should have stayed the night. But, it is difficult when you are looking for cheap flights.

But, one day I would like to experience Chicago. It is on my bucket list.

Thursday, the camp I work at had franks for lunch.

I don’t really like hot dogs, though, so I don’t eat them often.
