No, not about the transexual chick who looks like a guy but still has a working vajayjay.
I am sure everyone remembers my Mother’s Day treat (new kittens) followed a couple weeks later by our other female cat bringing her (already a few weeks old) new kittens to the house. Well, today when I pulled into the driveway, my daughter ran up to the car to announce that we had even more new kittens. At least one, anyway. Me ~!> <!~ “but Momma Cat and Evil Kitty both have kittens, is there a new cat hanging around?”
Turns out Mr. Moo Cow – our resident boy cat is actually a girl cat. And he is now a mother of four (he just gave birth to number four, so there might be more to come). I refuse to call him a she because I swear he is a boy. Not only did we see a nut sack when he was a kitten, he’s 2 years old and has never had kittens before. So, now we have 3 nursing mother cats and a total of 11 kittens (gods, I hope no more are on the way!) Until now, we wanted to keep Momma Cat intact, due to the fact that cats kill vermin, which drives snakes away, but dear Og! We will be looking for a low-cost spay/neuter clinic and having Evil Kitty and Moo Cow fixed. As for the kittens, I will be looking for homes for them. Of course those who don’t find homes will be welcome to stick around, but…sheesh.
Sheesh, you might want to get your water source checked! This is very remincent of an episode of The Cosby Show (but your cat gave birth to kittens instead of soda or a plastic car.)
Looks like Mr. Moo Cow has stopped at four. One black one with some white markings on its face, 2 that look like miniature Mr. Moo Cows and 1 brown and black striped. Meanwhile, the other kittens are all very curious about these new things they keep hearing.
Could you have phrased this in a different way? For example, by not referring to him as a “transexual chick”? Speaking as a genderqueer man who dates trans men, I really don’t care for this way of expressing yourself. Thanks.
I haven’t checked yet. Mr. Moo Cow is a new mom and so doesn’t really understand that the kittens need to be cleaner for me to touch them! Actually, I had to move 2 of them because Moo decided to move from the deck to inside my son’s PowerWheels Jeep – and I didn’t think to look. I will look tomorrow. So far, it actually looks like the majority of the kittens are male.
matt_mcl – I am sure I could have made it more offensive, if you’d prefer. I can always be more offensive, it’s a talent.
Just to complicate things, I must wander in with the observation that perhaps Mr Moo Cow is a male baby thief. That is to say, male but with access to am inattentive queen’s nest?
My neutered, non-hermaphroditic Monsterkitty would steal barn-kittens, chipmunks, fledgling birds, twin racoons, and unattended puppies for me. He never seemed to try to nurse or take care of them, he just brought them inside to lay on my side of the bed, then his role in their upbringing was ended.
The baby skunks sealed his fate as an indoor-only kitty. I don’t mind bottle feeding critters, but enough is enough.
Probably just parading my ignorance, but I just wanted to say that I have no idea what the graped phrase really means here - which wouldn’t matter at all, except for the context in which it appears.
I understand the terms on their own, but am having a hard time grokking whether this means that I understood matt_mcl to be the incorrect biological gender all along or not. Then again, I’m used to more stable and clear categories from trans friends like FtM or MtF when describing one’s self.
Either way, it’d be easier to describe what he’d like to hear rather than jump out of the birthday cake with the “I’m offended” clowns then flounce out.
Just going out on a limb here but I would guess that a “genderqueer man” is a genetic female who self identifies (and possibly has physical traits) as a male. I’m basing this on the perception of offendedness at the original statement. I would also guess (and an educated one at that) that the “trans men” he dates are genetic males who self identify as women (again with the high probability of physical traits).
Given this theory I would think that the term genderqueer man would be more acceptable and less offensive than transexual chick (as most male self identifying people would rather not be called a chick whether gay or straight).
I could be wrong about all of this though, I’m not as sensitive and politically correct as I appear (I would have refered to this type of relationship as “chicks with dicks dating dudes with a vag”, but again I could be wrong - and an ass ;))
Genderqueer - mainly figuring that “male” and “female” aren’t the only two choices, and self-identifying as “none of the above”. I’m not sure whether matt_mcl dates biomen who have transgendered into women, or the other way around.
Just “Man”, I’m guessing. Some people think that if you can get pregnant then you’re definitively female, and I can certainly see where you’re coming from. Others say that your gender is whatever you say it is, and so you can be a bone fide man while still being eight months pregnant. I will lay a little of the old six to four that matt is in the latter camp.
Thanks for the suggestions and explanations, which in total - I think - highlight the ambiguity of the graped quoted phrase. I only mentioned it because of the irony of using such an opaque term in a post itself complaining about using terms - albeit on different grounds.
As Malacandra says, it’s the other way around – it’s always more advisable to to identify a trans person as the gender they identify as. A trans man is a transgendered person who identifies as a man, such as the men in my life, which is why I was having difficulty with the OP’s expression “transexual chick.” Malacandra also has a bead on “genderqueer.”
I appreciate your openness and willingness to help with this. Thanks!
Now that we’ve got that cleared up, let’s get back to the kittens. Yay for kitties!
I hope that you don’t have any more unfortunate surprises in the future of this type. Although it must be cute to see all the kittens, I can imagine having that many cats in the house would be a bit hectic.
I guess part of the problem is that the correct terminology (if such exists) isn’t all that likely to become universally known - even in a social context where everything is accepted as good and proper, it still won’t be the case that everyone understands and uses the jargon of a numerical minority to which they do not belong.
To get back to the OP, why do you want to keep Momma Cat fertile? If it is because you think she won’t hunt mice anymore, spaying has never slowed down the hunting instincts of any of my cats.
matt_mcl – oh, so you wanted it less offensive? Hmmm…well, I missed the edit window :smack: How is “No. Not about that genderqueer individual who identifies as a man, but has a working female reproductive system and is in a state of being to which only female-gendered individuals can aspire”? Does that work for you?
MadPansy64 – nope, not a chance. The first kitten was born unseen, but the other 3, we watched be born, so whatever Mr Moo Cow is, he has a working vagina. I still find myself thinking of Moo as a boy, because I swear there was a scrotum on that cat. Once all the blood and amniotic ick is cleaned up, I am going to check again, seriously, I wonder if I have a viable hermaphrodite here.
nashiitashii – fortunately, they’re all outside kittens. We encourage the stray cats to stick around as they eat the vermin before the snakes can, keeping the snake population in our yard to a minimum. It is cute as hell all these little goofy fuzzballs, though. Aren’t you in the Nashville area? Would you like a kitten?
Cub Mistress – actually, we debated keeping Momma Cat intact, but the thing is – where we live, it’s far better to have feral cats that eat very well on table scraps and vermin than snakes. Since it seems the majority of these kittens are male, we shouldn’t have a problem finding them homes and will allow a few to remain around the house. The main reason we chose Momma Cat is that she truly is a wild animal. She allows me to pick her up and the rest of the family to pet her. That is it. I think it would be too traumatic for her to be put in a box, travel in a car and spend time at a vet.
