When Should Baby Have A Room of Their Own?

Co-sleepers kind of get round this…

My husband went from being unable to do IT when I was pregnant with the first, because the fetus was “watching” (not enough rolleyes to express what I felt!) to absolutely silent performances whenever and whereever!!

HIJACK:
We live separately during the week, and one day a few weeks ago he came home in the small hours of one night and had to go back the next afternoon. He and I both fancied a bit of you-know-what, but the kids were awake and charging round the house. What to do???

Suddenly a brainwave struck hub (ONLY GOOD FOR OLDER KIDS!!!) He went downstairs then came bombing back again. Downstairs, dead silence, interspersed with a lot of giggles…

“What have you done??” I asked.
"Never you mind, come here! he replied.

OK… 20 minutes later we amble back downstairs for me to find that he had given the boys a big ball of string. The entire downstairs looked like a cat’s cradle and the boys had very satisfied looks on their faces.

Come to think of it, so did my husband’s.

I built a cradle before my first daughter was born, which we kept in our bedroom. Both of our girls slept in the cradle until they outgrew it, which happened at about four to five months for both. It was very convenient for night feedings to just reach over and scoop them up and hand them to mom. Very relaxed for all concerned.

Then they moved into their own room and into a crib. I’d say anywhere along there that your comfortable with is a good time. In all realty, the kids will probably sleep wherever you put them.

As a side note, the cradle I built managed to survive the years (it was solid ash, and weighed about 60 pounds!) and still looks pretty good if I do say so myself. 25 years later my granddaughter also spent part of her first few months in it. I kind of liked that.
