When Trump loses

I wonder if you can get Cheetos with one meatball…

“Loser Donald got schlonged in the election. Very shameful that a girl even beat him in his home state. Sad!”

Riiiight. We have to make fun of his hair instead of his… whatever.

If he loses the election I can just imagine the NY Daily News publishing a different totally mocking, disrespectul and insulting cover page in every edition for the next 24 hours. Or even two overlaid covers, or different simulcovers. And if he wins the same, only with covers heralding apocalyptic doom. Heck, they probably already have a bunch laid out and ready, just need to add the weather blurb for the day and any specifics of the vote.

“I know a few Democrats on the internet” doesn’t really score you any points when you follow it up with, “but I refuse to do what’s necessary to defeat Donald Trump”.

“You ran an interesting campaign, but now that you’ve lost…”
“Says who?”
“The voters. Most of them. All of them?”
“Says who?”
“The voters. I just told you.”
“Okay, which voters?”
“All of them.”

My vote is utterly irrelevant. My state will go red, regardless of who or what the GOP nominates. This year it’s Trump. Next time it might be an actual Nazi or some Random Goat Fucker. Doesn’t matter.

As such, my disgust with Hillary will not cause her any harm. I can (and probably will) vote for Gary Johnson, but Hillary has no chance of winning here, so it doesn’t cost her anything other than a vote in a state she has no shot at winning.

I understand your point and by far the most important thing is who is and is not the next President. But there is an important message to be sent in how he loses.

Does this country solidly reject his message, such that the overall popular vote is overwhelming?

Does the GOP get to point to the relatively narrower margins of his wins even in the most Red states and to give them the cahones to reject not only the messenger but the message, and begin a rebuilding process that is, if not more inclusive at least less exclusive?

Screw that. I have no desire to “come together” with racist ignorant bigots. I’ll be rubbing as much egg in their face as I can. I want them to realise they are a vocal minority that does not share values with the rest of society.

Then what matters is how you vote in down-ticket races. If Trump loses but Trump-supporters win, the country still loses.

I do know you get no bread with one meatball.

I bet it doesn’t look so good if you only count white voters.

it will if minorities don’t show up b/c of media bias.
" hrc is sure win – no need for me to vote . "

Some of them will kill you for doing that. (I’m not one of them)

But that is what the campaign is for. Look at what is happening- Trump is not just going to ride the Benghazi train as far as it will go, but by taking on Roger Ailes and that Breitbart guy, The Donald is going to run on everything the LameStream media won’t tell you. All the dumb conspiracy theories the right uses beneath the surface to keep their base agitated, all of these are going to be front and center, right through to the election.

Trump has rejected the reliability of even our own national intelligence services. The “intellectual foundation” of the right wing is finally going to be front and center! Hopefully this will engender in at least some people a national conversation about, “Dude, exactly what is the source of your information?” The lies and manipulations the right uses to fool people into voting against their own interests will finally be exposed!

Now, I don’t know who you vote for if you are a coal miner. You are never going to be able to reason with evangelicals about the separation of church and state, or with most hard-case racist types about equality. But I think there Are going to be people who wake up and question things a little bit by the end of this process. I think it will be counter-productive to insult them and push them away right as they are having their very own personal Shit or Shinola moment.

Divisions in this country are at least to some extent manufactured. Do you really want to reinforce them from a point of view that people can’t or won’t ever change and grow?

As a corollary, the $75K - 99K group is one of the few where Trump was outperforming Romney as of June. (He was worse among whites, men, poor people, and most other groups. Interestingly, he was doing better than Romney with black people, though still terribly.) See chart here: White, Working-Class Men Are Less Racist Than You Think – Mother Jones

I should say that it is theoretically possible (I’m pretty sure) for Trump to be doing worse among the large categories of men, white people, poor people, and working-class people than Romney - and still be doing better than Romney among white working-class/poor men, if that sub-category has shrunk in size. But as Drum notes, it’s unlikely to be by much.

Pissing contest notwithstanding, the only egg which matters diddly squat involves casting a vote … which you can’t, right?

Then the onus is on them to apologize and try to make amends. Being polite to racists and faith-based fuckwits is how we got in this mess in the first place. It’s well past time for them to hear that their shit is unacceptable.

I plan on treating them the same way they would treat me if the situation was reversed.
