NOW it’s time to blame the Russians. For what? A phishing scheme that any high schooler could do? Podesta responded to the oldest trick in the book. Please reset your password. The Stupid dumb ass fell for it. Podesta is no different than the staff I support every day. Somebody opens the wrong email and I have to stay late cleaning off the virus. I have to respond before the network scanner discovers the infected pc. Otherwise the PC’s network connectivity is killed. I have to fix it AND call CS the next day.
I started a thread on the Wiki leaks releases last summer. NOTHING remotely substantial or ever came out to hurt Sainted Hillary. Wiki leaks was a minor annoyance. It sure as heck didn’t make Trump President.
There is one good thing that can happen. Maybe this will finally wake up the politicians in the US. Cyber Warfare is the new reality and we are woefully unprepared. We are babes in the woods compared to N Korea, China and Russia. They’ve had professional teams probing our firewalls and networks since the late 80’s. They are ready to kick the shit out of us at any time. WWIII will start with Cyber warfare attacks that will cripple the US computer networks and cellular services.
I check the server logs every morning at work. I see my system getting probed at least weekly. It’s a constant battle to stay ahead and keep our server secure.
There is, of course, no way to be sure, but a lot of people are pretty damn well convinced that, had Clinton won, the Trumpists would be whining right now, and a hell of a lot more bitterly.
It was going to happen either way, so it’s stupid to complain about it as if it only applies to one side.
(Hell, Trump himself is whining about Clinton winning the popular vote, accusing “millions of illegal voters” for that outcome. So even the winners are whining!)
The whining ISN’T about Hillary losing. If pretty much any other Republican had won, there wouldn’t be any whining. If Romney had won, or GW Bush, or even Ted Cruz, there wouldn’t be this kind of prolonged outrage.
It’s because TRUMP won. Trump is an ignorant, ill-educated, narcissistic opportunist who has no principles and is different from every other Republican candidate who has run (win or lose) in living memory.
And because he won the Electoral College while LOSING the popular vote by 2.8+ million votes.
I’ll ask a better, more salient question, aceplace57: when are YOU and those who believe what you do going to GET this? This was not a normal election and your candidate is not a normal, mentally stable, intelligent human being.
ETA:
No, they won’t do this. You know why? Because they’re not Republicans. And because they’re not Republicans, you can be sure they actually care about this country and the people who live here. Something that Congress has shown for that last eight years that they do not. The record speaks for itself. Deny it all you want, but it’s right there for all the world to see.
BTW, the whole world thinks your candidate is a loser. Those of you who believe he will make a good president are in the minority of the world’s population. Feel good about that, do you?
You do understand that the protests are not because Hilary lost. The protests are because the person who will be in power vowed to do horrible things were he to get into power.
Those who can’t see the difference between “boo hoo, we lost” and “this person has promised to do all these dangerous things” are the ones with the problem.
I wish the primaries had yielded a decent candidate that I could support. Instead we had to choose between two bad choices.
I’m cautiously optimistic that Trump will continue moderating his positions. I’m encouraged that Ivanka will be there advising him on social issues. She cares about child care and education. If Trump doesn’t swing to the middle, then we have 2018 to flip the House and stop Trump that way.
Anyway, the election is done. It’s time to move forward and stop looking for excuses. Hillary ran a bad campaign. That’s why she lost.
People will whine about that but they shouldn’t. Everyone knew going in that electoral votes are what matter. If the rules were changed so that the popular vote decided the election, it’s a pretty sure bet that voting patterns would change, and the popular vote might very well have been different.
When the other side stops dismissing legitimate concerns as whining over losing an election, and actually participates in all that “coming together” they say we all need to do.
But since that will probably not happen, then when Trump is no longer in office and we can get back to actually making this country great, instead of making it a dangerous place for so many people.
I know people who became suicidal when Trump won. I know people who are only alive today because of Obamacare.
You are not going to normalize a psychopath as President. It will not happen.
I mean, there is a good chunk of the country that would view an assassin as a hero for taking out Trump.
I understand people are worried. My mom pays almost 3k a year for a Medicare Advantage plan. We don’t know how badly the Republicans may screw up Medicare. Social Security is deeply personal to me and my mom. I may be drawing social security in another 8 to 12 years. Depends on when I decide to retire.
All we can do is trust our system of checks and balances. Whatever gets screwed up in the next 4 years can be fixed by a new President.
It’s messy but democracy has always worked in the past. It will work today. Congress needs to listen to Trump’s good ideas and fight the bad ones. It is possible to pass some good legislation if the two parties compromise.
If the election of Trump is so horrid that people you know wanted to commit suicide over it, did you ever think that the root cause of that isn’t Trump but rather the fact that government officials have too much power over people?
So why is protest and civil disobedience, which has been a legitimate way for the people to express their opinions since the inception of our country, now described as being PITA and sore losers?
You may not feel it’s a big deal and checks and balances will win out. Was it checks and balances that got rid of Jim Crow, got women the vote, and changed public opinion on marriage equality?
You may think these issues are not worth protesting over, but how insulting is it to assume people who feel differently are just being sore losers.
I doubt most people in Papua New Guinea, Mongolia or Peru spend a lot of time thinking about American presidental candidates. America is not as much of a big deal as it’s inhabitants have been led to believe.
Of those of us who have considered the two silly old bozos, some think Trump’s a vile idiot; and others think at least Hillary can’t have her nuclear war now. * There was no good outcome.
And so they begin whining about Trump being friendly with Russia rather than whining about Reagan being enemy to Russia… The USA will never forgive Russia for rejecting Capitalism; so it’s the perfect enemy. Too small to do you much harm; too big to crush.
Really ? Charming… but it reaffirms the rest of us’s belief in the violence inherent in the American Soul.
Fat lot of use civil disobedience achieved under Bush/Obama. They just ignored protest: Anti War Iraq, Occupy, anti-free trade, the Tea Party, they all fell before those people’s sullen, petulant indifference.
I still whine about GWB winning twice and I’ve seen people whine about Nixon winning with his Vietnam diplomacy shenanigans, so…as long as the people who lived through it are still breathing, I guess.
Serious answer, no. Government officials have immense power, which can be misused. But it’s wrong to say they have “too much power.”
The electricity in your walls can start a fire and kill you. But going without electricity is not the right answer. Using it safely, for everyone’s benefit, is the right way to go.
The nice policeman on the street carries a gun. That’s a lot of very dangerous power too. But I’m safer because of it than I would be without it.
Protesting the result of a fair democratic. election will accomplish nothing. The results are immutable. Protests will not force a new election. They seem like sour grapes.
Trying to tamper with the electoral college is outright appalling. People’s lives are being threatened. Even worse is this knee jerk reaction to scrape the electoral college. All because of one unpopular election.
It’s also insulting to the large number of State’s that voted Republican. Like voters in America’s heartland didn’t understand Trump’s volatile personality. Or that he was proposing outrageous policies during the campaign. We’re not all unsophisticated hicks. Congress better keep a tight leash on Trump. Or there will be hell to pay in the 2018 election. The Republicans will be held responsible for whatever Trump does.
Choosing between two unlikeable candidates isn’t easy. Who should we believe and trust? I was deeply conflicted the entire general election. I’m still conflicted, but I’m trying to be cautiously optimistic. There’s really no alternative.
People will be making their voices heard about upcoming changes in legislation. AARP’s newspaper is calling for members to call their legislators to protect Medicare and Social Security.
I support that type of protest. We need to make our voices heard on the issues. Speaker Ryan stood up to Trump during the campaign. Ryan and Mitch McConnell will fight Trump when necessary and support his better ideas.
