Probably sleeping.
But I will go to the local Barnes & Noble to get my pre-ordered copy when I get up on Saturday
Thanks for this thread, btw. You reminded me to pre-order a copy for my sister- her birthday is this month.

Ooh! Ooh! Gotta get this one!!! Did Stephen King write it?
I’ll be at the Barnes and Noble a friend reserved our books at. Last time they had a story teller n’ everything. I like events where I get to be 10 again, and judging from the number of other adults sans children who were there last time, so do a lot of people.
With any luck, I’ll be at a science fiction convention, filking away with a few friends, including a published writer or two. I’m planning on being at the convention, anyway. On the other hand, I do have to get to Barnes and Noble sometime on Sunday, the 18th, to pick up my copy. What can I say? They offered me 40% off if I ordered in advance and I figured since I was going to buy it anyway, I may as well get it cheap!

It’s coming out in Saturday at 11.01am in NZ. So at around 11.05, I’m going to wander down to the bookshop where I work, buy a copy for my friend (it’s her birthday on the 16th) and a copy for myself if I can’t scam the reading copy from my boss. And I’m spending Saturday on the couch, in Hogwarts. Can’t wait!
I’ll be asleep in a tent in the Great Smoky Mountains. And thinking about where I will find the best price on the book on my trip home that Sunday.
I will anxiously be awaiting for the latest enstallment to arrive by my poor mail carriers beaten up truck.
Then I shall drink some coffee and do some marathon reading!
w00t!
I can wait a few days.
I’ll be working at the bookstore til the wee hours of the morning, handing out books to those who preordered. My boss will be in costume, but I won’t unless I get a bonus.
I’m happy for those who are into it; me, I enjoyed the first book but skimmed the next 2 and didn’t read the others. Too repetitive. Then again, I only really enjoyed the very first “Star Wars”. I do understand what fun it is to be in on something like this tho - I was right there the night “Return of the King” opened - and it’s super so many kids are more into reading partly due to Harry.
I’ll be at home, either in bed or in the middle of my Sabbath meal.
Harry Potter book releases were clearly not arranged with Orthodox Jews in mind.
On the other hand, I expect to spend Sunday at the nearest place that has the book. Hopefully, that’ll be as close as my local Wal-Mart, but I may need to go all the way to a Borders 40 miles from here.
(I’m in the Catskills for the summer, not in NYC as my profile suggests.)
I will have just got home from India on the Friday. However, on the Saturday morning, when I finally drag myself out of bed, I will go to the local Waterstones and get my pre-ordered copy. Whilst I’m looking forward to the release, the timing of it means that on that Saturday morning, other things (well, person) will get priority.
I’ll be home, on the sofa bed, in a Percocet haze. Recovering from kidney stone surgery that’s scheduled for the 13th. But that’s okay. I hate kidney stones, I like Percocet, and I’m not into Harry Potter.
My middle daughter, OTOH, will be trying her best to drag her father to the mall so she can get her copy.
Waiting for my younger brother and sister to start fighting over who gets to read it first, so I can sneak in and steal it.
I’ll be stuck working at the fershnickin’ bookstore until 1:30 a.m., and not by choice. Kids are not my favorite species, and so far we have 1400 copies on order. I don’t even want to think about what that night is going to be like.
Although I like the mommies, so it might not be too bad.
DeHusband is visiting his mother that week. I’ve told him that I’ll miss him terribly every day but that Saturday. I’ll be busy.
He made me promise not to spoil him or mark the book but to finish it so he can read it when he gets back. Party Pooper.
At home sleeping (I hope), as I mail-ordered the UK version from amazon.co.uk and it won’t arrive until (presumably) the next week. I’ll have to tread very carefully in my online life to avoid stumbling across spoilers.
The following weekend though will probably be spent locked into my bedroom with a couple of pounds of Twizzlers and a pile of blunt objects to hurl at anyone who dares interrupt my reading. Kids? What kids??? They can forage for food, right?
For the last one: I’d also ordered it from the UK so had to wait. However we happened to be near a bookstore at midnight the day it came out, and Papa Zappa had to physically restrain me from buying another copy right then and there.
Midnight eastern or midnight local? Midnight eastern, I’ll be closing up and cursing last minute customers who want a pack of cigarettes and try to pay with a c-note. Midnight local, I plan to be asleep, as I’ll have worked a 10-hour shift.
(My copy of the book is the adult version coming in from Amazon.co.uk, so I’m not exactly hyped.)
The adult version? What the devil do you mean??
IIRC, the “adult” version has a different cover, slightly less kiddish than the regular version. At least, I hope that’s all it means…
Hahahahaha… most Americans (and those in the UK who haven’t got the adult versions) have missed out on a lot of hot Ron’n’Hermione action… not to mention the original inspiration for Naked Quidditch (google it) - Harry ‘n’ Ginny…
JUST KIDDING. Yes, as far as I understand it, it’s just a difference in the cover art.
Or so they tell me (I’ve got the kids’ version)…
