Fort Collins, CO. Just a bit north of Mr. Cynical. I know there are several more Colorodans who post on this board, but I haven’t met any of them (though I’d like to), so I guess I should let them put their own names in.
Is it too late to add my name/location too? I live about 20 miles north, but you can put me down as living in Detroit, Michigan.
Ok, corrected url:

Again, that is the one for people outside of the United States.
The current version of the United States map can be found at http://www.lava.net/~alexman/map/mapusa.html
Yes, the two will eventually be linked together, and time permitting other individual countries will be done if there is lots of crowding.
Now I have a couple technical questions concerning the image:
Recommendations for reducing the file size as much as possible. I know I could just reduce the dimensions, but that would cause crowding again. I am not an image person so I don’t know how I can keep the dimensions and reduce the filesize without giving up too much image quality.
Currently the file is a jpeg. Iterations of editing the file quickly leads to degradation of the image quality (presumably because of repeated compressions). Any recommendations here?
Any input on anything accepted.
Hey Demo’, Is it too late to get on the list?
If not, put me down for Topeka, Kansas. That’s just 60 miles West of Kansas City.
You can shorten my handle to Bb, if you’re still hurting for space!
Holy Cow! Scranton has Internet?

The lovely burgh of Oakland, CA.
What a brilliant idea!

Ooh, I want in! Demo knows where I live >wink<. You can just squeeze me in after you and Psy.
For images that use only a few colors, and have large expanses of a single color (your map for example), .GIF is actually a better format than .JPEG which was designed for full color photographs. This is because of differences in the way the image data is compressed.
If you do need to work with a .JPEG, try this: Save an original copy of the image (example: image_orig.jpg), and never overwrite it. In Photoshop, do your modifications in a 2nd layer and save that layer separately (image_mod.jpg). When you are ready to get your final image, collapse the layers down to one image and save that (image_final.jpg). This way, you won’t continually downgrade the image since you are in effect starting fresh each time. Alternatively, you could save preliminary work in Photoshop format (it’s quite large though) and output to .JPEG at the end.
Great work on the map! Democritus too!
*Spooje, who is always late to these things, hails from Los Angeles, California.

And Lawoot lives in Bremerton, Washington.
Little Tassie, I’m jealous: I adore Tasmania (well, except Queenstown), and I have ancestors from there, as well as from Benalla Victoria and Sydney NSW.
Fenris: Golden, Colorado
(the opposite side of Denver from Mr. Cynical’s Aurora, not that there’s any difference at this scale)

Obfus,
I had a look at the map and it’s at 500dpi which is very large. Reducing that will bring down its filesize amazingly.
Great job tho guys (both you and demo)
kudos even
I currently reside in Victoria, BC.
Concord Ca.,USA
Montréal, Québec, Canada, if I’m not too late.
Prague, Czech Republic. Originally from Colorado though…
Another DFW Doper checking in. I live in Dallas, TX.
You two aren’t related by any chance, are you?
