Where are you posting from/what else are you up to?

It’s been a bad day, but that little scene I described is about as close as I get to feeling domestic bliss. I would rather have a kitchen full of chaos than an empty one.

I’m posting from Room 328 of the Kon Tiki Inn in Pismo Beach while watching storm chaser Daniel Shaw’s youtube channel. He’s live streaming from the rural area east of Oklahoma City looking to encounter severe weather.

I’ve stayed there! Not room 328 necessarily, but the Kon Tiki. A fun old-fashioned coastal California experience.

Sitting in an apartment in Taiwan right now, doing transcription work for a preacher who hems and haws and “oh man, oh brother”’ and changes flow mid-sentence a lot. This 84-minute sermon will probably take 8.4 hours. The pay is good though, and I am always a hermit who enjoys being alone at home.

I’m in the breakfast lounge at a hotel just outside Toledo, Ohio. It’s about midway between Chicago and my destination near where Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania converge. It’s pretty rural out there but Follansbee, WV is the nearest town.

I’m sitting in my Northern Virginia home office, posting from my personal computer while finishing lunch and keeping an eye/ear out for work emails or IMs. I’ve done some productive stuff today but am mostly in reactive mode this afternoon (waiting for info from others), and I’ll be logging off early to get a jump on the holiday weekend. It’s a beautiful day, so I have most of the windows in the house open, plus lunch was quite yummy. I’m pretty content at the moment.

I’m also doing bits of volunteer-related stuff here and there today: I’m the membership chair for the local branch of a national nonprofit, and I’ve sent a couple of emails and organized some online docs/folders.

Why the scare quotes? Is it actually, like, a potbellied pig or something?

I’m on a flight from London to Seattle. First time on a 787.Also first time in true first class, British Air. Just finished some lamb, after an incredible soufflé.

Because she’s pushing 60 lbs. already and she’s nowhere near done growing!

Ahhh, gotcha. To me, “puppy” refers to an age and not a size…hence my question.

Right there with you. Everyone else I work with has made it abundantly clear they are in holiday mode, so who am I to argue? I spent some time working on a puzzle. It’s a fantasy depiction of a ferris wheel powered by sailboats which is pretty cool.

Now, sitting at the kitchen table filling out ADA paperwork for our son so we can bring his food to daycare (he has been starving himself for months rather than eat their food.)

Next: grocery list

Just another day in the life.

While I’m in the thread:

Sitting in the break room at work for a few minutes and drinking Crystal Light lemonade. This afternoon I’m building platforms that will eventually be installed over the top of a (dry) pool for some kind of event.

This morning I was on a service call at a venue I working on for most of last summer and fall. We did not build the facility itself, but my team built the games inside the rooms. https://www.brkthrough.com/

fyi, Mom’s doing great! She’s gone from minimal interactions at her old place to having her “neighbors” inviting her to classes and activities. And she’s now eating! “I’m paying for three meals a day, I’m going to get my money’s worth!”

Hooray for Mom! That was exactly my MIL’s experience.

She hated the idea until she got there and suddenly blossomed amongst all her peers. And ate like she’d been starved for the last 5 years. Because she had been. By her own hand.
