My “Retired and Being a Bum” MMP

Technically, July 30 was my last day, even tho I surrendered my badges on the 29th. The rule states that in order to earn leave, you must work the entire pay period. Since I was earning 8 hours and selling those 8 hours back was a substantial chunk of change, my paperwork had me retiring on the 30th. So technically, this is my second day, I guess. But weekends shouldn’t count… no matter. I’m home, I don’t have a job, and I’m launching the next phase of my life. At least for a short time.

How long I’ll be a bum is up in the air. When my sweetie came home on Friday, he was telling me about a contract his company is getting that will require some Aero engineering. Gee, I’m an Aero engineer. What a happy coincidence… It will involve designing some fairings that will go on a UAV around a couple of antennae. So I guess I need to start learning the new CAD software in order to be ready when I’m officially contracted to do the job. With luck, it won’t be till after our cruise in January.

What other excitement does retirement hold? Ummmmmm, I’m going to organize the pantry. I want to clean all my kitchen cabinets inside and out. I need to clean the fridge. I really should mow the yard. And my car needs to be washed. Then tomorrow…

Honestly, the only thing for sure on my to-do list is to be here between 1-5PM when the furnace guy comes to do the annual maintenance check. And while he’s doing that, I’ll be working in my studio – either moving crap, or starting to paint. We shall see.

Oddly enough, Scruffy still hasn’t started barking. **FCD **woke me when he got up to shower. I could have gone back to sleep, but I have an obligation to you, plus as soon as I’d try to sleep, the idiot dog would bark anyway…

Happy Monday!!

First!

Now a real reply.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ YAWN ‘Tis 76 degrees Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 94 and maybe more rain. We had tstorms last night. I heard the boom booms just as I was driftin’ off to sleep. Tstorms make some good sleepin’ weather!

Now I need to get myself dressed to go meet OYKW at MickeyD’s for brekkie. Yeah, we like those gourmet places.

Enjoy your official first day of retirement MOOOOOOM! You should meet FCD at the door this evenin’ in your robe and slippers and say, “Oh my goodness! I didn’t realize it’s this late. Guess I should get dressed.”

Happy Monday Y’all!

**swampy **- good idea, since I was in robe and slippers when he left. As long as the furnace guy is done and gone by then…

I just ate the leftover cheesebread from PapaJohn’s for breakfast and washed it down with my diet Coke. I’ve got a few more things to look at on line, then I’ll don some clothing and do something chore-like. I’ll definitely run the vacuum, and I think I’ll start by sorting all the papers that are accumulating on my desk, pay the ones that are bills, file the ones that are important, and toss the rest. Good start, huh? in fact, I need to clean the whole desk area. Stuff seems to gravitate here and it’s looking pretty messy.

Happy August, by the way!

MOOOOOOM, you are completely breaking all my illusions of what retirement is. I know it’s a little early, but I was looking forward to, you know, not working?

swampy, McDonald’s definitely has the best breakfast among the chains, IMO. Do they still have the steak bagel where you are? ::drooooooool:: Best hangover food ever.

Up, getting ready for work. Had a busy day yesterday, with food not bombs (we go dumpster food and cook it for (mostly) homeless people), then while my roommate delivered it, I made a batch of broccoli cheez soup (silly vegans ruining my life :p). Between the two people we had over most of the day, my roommate, and one other friend that came over about halfway through the movie (Oh, we’re watching all the Harry Potters again), we managed to demolish almost the entire 5 qt pan. Apparently, it was delicious, although I didn’t find it to taste much like real cheese.

Off to shower ::whooooosh::

donkeybear, I don’t know about where you live, but my house isn’t self-cleaning. :stuck_out_tongue: And now that I’ve read the comics and Dear Abby, and I’ve done my puzzle and read all the LOL cats so far, it’s time for me to get into some grubby clothes and start some chores. Good times!

Up, caffeinated, off to irk. 7 Days till vacation

MMMMMoooommm, I second the robe and slippers thing.

donkeybear, every retired person I know works twice as hard as when they were employed.

Morning all! Great OP, mooooom, I am somewhat jealous that you’re retiring and looking at all the fun things you can do now. Where does another job come into the “fun” part though?

I am at irk and irked as usual, the whole looming redundancy thing doesn’t make the office a particularly pleasant place to be as there is almost a degree of suspicion in the air. It’s hard to say why, but it’s just there.

I woke up with a sore throat this morning, I blame it on the number of limes we got through last night. 'im indoors said they were in danger of going off so we had to use them. And margaritas are the only thing worth using limes for, right? We did also watch “The King’s Speech” which was a pleasant little thing. I got to bed later than late, and had to get up early to come here. No wonder I’m irked.

Off on holiday in 40 days though!

Let’s recap this morning’s fun so far - bear in mind it’s not yet 9AM:

[ul]
[li]Tidied kitchen and loaded dishwasher[/li][li]Cleaned and refilled dog’s water dispenser[/li][li]Cleaned cat box[/li][li]Emptied dehumidifier[/li][li]Sorted laundry[/li][li]First load of laundry in the machine[/li][li]Clothesline set up[/li][li]Small patch of grass mowed with the push mower - it’s really the only grass of consequence in the back yard - the rest is mostly crispy, so…[/li][li]Set up sprinkler over crispy grass to give it a drink before it gets too hot out[/li][li]Vacuumed[/li][li]Stripped guest bed[/li][/ul]

Plus there was breakfast and getting dressed in there. I may not have the hang of retirement yet. I did learn, however, that wearing my hair down like I did for work is not going to cut it when I’m doing physical labor. So it’s in a ponytail, held atop my head with a big clip. Much cooler.

Next, I’m taking this big pile of assorted papers into the living room, turning on the TV, and sorting while watching something. I should take the shredder in with me to. And a large cold beverage. Sounds like a plan.

Do you all still envy my retired state??

i don’t think you have the hang of it yet. every day is saturday now. it is all in the pacing.

you are in the get things done work mode. to be retired, you channel the inner cat. do something, nap, eat something, nap, bug someone, nap, etc.

Um, but the above is pretty much my old Saturday routine, since I worked all week. In fact, the point of getting the chores done is so that my sweetie and I can have weekends again that aren’t dedicated to doing the crap we didn’t want to do all week…

And I’m pretty sure this won’t continue. Come September, I’ll be taking a ceramic class 2 days a week, so that’ll get me out of the house. And I figure once I hit a rhythm, the chores will be pretty quick and easy. In theory. We shall see.

Off to sort papers!

Man, I want to be retired. I always feel like I could get so much more accomplished with my life if I didn’t have to be at my stupid job all the time…

I feel the same way, ladyfoxfire.

Still, FCM, it must be nice knowing that you’re pretty much on your own timetable now. If it doesn’t get done today, there’s always tomorrow.

I’m here at work, and I need to actually get going. Lots of reports today.

blurf

Well, I never found my wallet, so I’m going to have to get all new cards. The only one that’s really important is my debit card–when Culinary Boy gets off work, I’m going to the bank to report it missing and get a new picture taken for it. My old debit picture was taken before I lost 50 lbs. I need to get a duplicate license and AAA card and library card. I need to talk to HR guy tomorrow about getting new insurance cards. I don’t care about the Best Buy card–I don’t go there anymore anyway. The only thing that’s truly lost is $4 cash and an expired credit card. If my wallet was stolen, I really hope the thief tries to use that credit card.

All this will have to wait. I’m too mad right now to do anything about it. Computer Boy texted his friend last night to see if he saw the wallet, but I haven’t heard a reply to that yet.

First lesson learned - set the timer after starting a load of laundry. I can’t hear the machine from upstairs and I’d forgotten about it till a few minutes ago. First load is on the lines, second is in the washer, and timer is set this time. I’ve also sorted thru the papers, shredded a bunch, and only found 2 bills to pay, so yay for that. Now I need to find home for the stuff that was deemed save-worthy. On re-evaluation, some of that may go…

**Spaz **- losing a wallet sucks. At least you don’t have tons of cash and credit cards to worry about.

Well, back to sorting. Then I’ll need to start thinking about lunch. hmmmmmm

I hate t say it, Spaz, and I’m sure you thought it - but the kid who came to help with the 'puter? I wouldn’t be surprised if he knows where your wallet is.

I found out on Friday that I needed to move all the accumulated crap from my classroom to another classroom down the hall. Husband, daughter #1 and #1 fiance went to school with me yesterday and helped haul most of it to the new room. Why do teachers (and others) collect so much stuff???
Gotta go back today and work on it…but it’s 98 here and my motivation melted.

Blurf to losing wallets.

I had to have a funeral for my pen today. It has probably been a decade since I’ve run a pen out of ink, and I finally managed to do it with this pen. Refills aren’t any cheaper on Amazon than just buying a new damn pen, though. I think I might hit up Office Depot after work, buy one of the cheap ones with the same cartridge and put 'er in.

What cad system will you have to learn? They do take a long time to master.
