**limegreen **- my daughter the science teacher is moving to the biggest room in the 5th grade hall for this year. She never did understand why the math teacher got all that real eststate - probably seniority, but she’ll now be teaching math in 4th grade, so my daughter’s team agreed that science needed the biggest room. So once they let the teachers back in, I’ll be helping her move the lab tables and various storage devices and the tables for the fish tanks and the lizard tank… well, you know how that goes. The really big move will be when she leaves this school for another, if she ever gets her butt in gear to apply.
Meanwhile, I’m going to run to the sto’ for a few things. Second load on the line, third in the washer. Furnace guy will be here in an hour or so, giving me just enough time to dash out and back.
**gonzomax **- what I really need to learn is Solid Works but all we have at home is Inventor. My spousal unit assures me they’re close enough. I was a whiz on AutoCAD up thru 2000 and Computervision back 20+ years ago. I’ve never done parametric modeling, tho, so there’s the challenge…
My grandad retired at 50 and lived to 100. If that ain’t a ringing endorsement…
Speaking of 100, our forecast for Tue thru Sat is: 100, 102, 102 102, 100. Precipitation from T.S. Don - 0.00. I really, really, really am looking forward to fall.
I can completely relate to what the OP is saying. When I retired, I went through a period where I constantly felt like I should be doing something - I had all that energy that I use to put into my job and it needed to go somewhere. It took me several months to slow down.
A biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig limb fell from an oak tree in the backyahd of JDD and Partner last night and knocked down a power line. Thus they have no power until sometime tomorrow which is apparently how long it will take to get it fixed. In the meantime I told ‘em they could take stuff out of their freezer and go put it in OYKW’s chest freezer bein’ as there’s next to nuttin’ in it anyways. Don’t y’all just love how I volunteered OYKW’s freezer just like it’s mine? I even gave 'em his house key so they could do that. Needless to say both of 'em decided this was reason enough to take off irk for today. Oh, and I was nice enough to call OYKW to tell him what I did. Ain’t I sweet!
Anywho, I told both of ‘em to just come out to da cave and stay this afternoon and night. Partner will go back to irk tomorrow mornin’ but poor JDD wll need to be off again to be around for the electrical stuff. Like he said though, he has use or lose leave time so might as well burn a couple days of that. I’ve also been told that dindin will be Papa John’s pizza. Works for me!
Other than that, it’s been mellow here at irk. Tomorrow will be another story altogether. A co-irker and I will be in the large metropolises of Colquitt, Donalsonville, Bainbridge, Kay-ro and Thomasville all day and into the night tomorrow. Seriously. We’ll probably be back around tenish tomorrow night. Ick!
Ok, I got my N.O.L. et, so reckon I should get back to irk now.
I hope that you will find retirement to your liking, FCM. My retirement lifted a great deal of job-related stress off of me, and I tell you it has felt just great to be able to relax instead of being stressed out so much of the time. I’ve been through a great deal of changes, though, and am still adjusting to everything. I am enjoying it, though, and enjoying being in the southwest, believe it or not. I do miss my friends and family but have been able to keep in touch via phone calls and on facebook–plus one of my brothers lives in the TX panhandle and is close enough to visit me (and in fact, already has!). Another brother is in northern CA and will visit me in early October, around Balloon festival time.
No matter what they say, heat without humidity isn’t as bad. True, Hot is HOT but in the shade there is almost always a breeze and it is comfortable, even with temps in the mid 90s. Very different environment here.
Third load of laundry is on the line - that’s all the laundry for today - I need to leave some fun for tomorrow! tarra, I’m thinking it’s important that I learn to pace myself.
I ran into Leonardtown for some grocery-like substances. Supper will be used meat, broccoli, Amish corn, and mushrooms. For the uninitiated, used meat = meat that’s been marked down for quick sale. In this case, it’s a chuck steak that’s now marinating in the fridge. I don’t know when we started calling it used meat, but it’s fun. Try it!
Oh, and when I came out of the sto’, I had a minor temporary heart attack - the guy gathering up the stray carts looked like a slightly shorter version of my now-former boss.
**FCD **went to the Dr about his back. He got a scrip for steroids and a muscle relaxer. So maybe he’ll be able to start moving more easily again.
I got a card from the vet saying Taz is due for his shots. Now why couldn’t they have mentioned that while I was there last Firday? I guess they want another office call charge. I think I’m going to wait till Ziva’s due and take them both together. He’s a strictly indoor critter and i don’t think a couple of months will make that big a difference.
I’m now trapped at home till the furnace guy shows up. Whatever shall I do?? Oh yeah, gotta attack the disaster that is my studio… rah.
Furnace guy has been and gone. I had a scare because he left the door open to the basement and Taz got down there. I couldn’t find him, and I thought he might have gotten out, but he was just hiding. So all is well.
And I found out why our a/c wasn’t working during the mega-hot day. We have a box on it that allows the electric company to cut it off for brief periods during extreme load demand. The service guy told me that there will be a light on the box when that’s happening. I’m so glad we didn’t put in a trouble call that day.
I was a slug - I didn’t do anything in my studio. Maybe tomorrow, while I’m doing the rest of the laundry… What do I care? I’m retired!
Woke up yesterday with that “something’s not right” feeling, which blossomed into a full blown blood-in-the-urine UTI within 3 hours. $98 at the Doc-in-the-Box and I feel much better today.
The fuzzbutts are being very clingy today - wonder what’s up with that?
My wallet has been found! It was hiding on a black chair under a pair of black pants. Have I mentioned that my wallet is also black?
Of course, Culinary Boy finds my wallet about two seconds after I cancelled my old debit card. I’ll get the new one in 7-10 days. Oh well. The old one was getting pretty worn out.
SpazCat - I am very glad that you found it - please forgive my comment earlier - I am just too suspicious of people. I need to learn to trust more.
in other news, my back is acting up again, so I am again out of work for the foreseeable future. They’re going to let me go, i just know it.
Poor **FCD **- got a flat tire on the way home. Like he needs to be changing a tire in this heat with his back. I expect he’ll hit the shower as soon as he comes in the door. Poor baby. Looks like I’ll be taking the truck to the garage tomorrow so they can fix the tire. Maybe we can drop it off tonight so I don’t have to sit there and wait on it.
Yay for found wallet! That’ll teach you to put it someplace…
Instead of pizza, we got treated to dindin at the good Eyetalian place. See, on Monday night family platters are half price. JDD remembered that and said that would be a better plan to which we readily agreed.
MOOOOOOM maybe today wouldn’t be the day to pull the robe and slippers bit then. When you said “back to the kitchen” I envisioned Donna Reid or June Cleaver. Now, pullin’ that look off on FCD one day would be a real hoot! I say you start makin’ plans.
Spaz yay for found wallet!
Ok, Ima go check out some other stuff then go be sociable for a bit.
Honestly, swampy, I forgot about the robe and slippers. Oh well.
Supper was good, and we just got back from dropping the truck off at our shop to get the tire fixed or replaced. **FCD **thinks the hole in the tire might be too big to plug. Dunno what he ran over, but it messed up one expensive tire.
We drove home thru some rain - hope it’s a prelude to a nice shower. And on that note, I’m going to assume the knit position.
Happy 'tirement, FCM! Seems you worked harder on your first day of it than I do some days at the orafice. I hope FCD is feeling better soon! Few things get my sympathies like back problems.
Glad your wallet got found, Spaz! After I misplaced mine once, I got a little tray for my dresser. Wallet and change go there always and I never lost a wallet again.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed you get home long before 10 tomorrow, swampbear.
My Mondays N Fridays are Irk@home days. Otherwise, I might be delivering pizzas instead by now. The downside is much of the aggravation is now pushed back to Tuesdays.
Yay wallets! Yay half-price Eyetalian! And yay used meat!
I just cooked up another pot of broccoli cheez soup, since I ate exactly one bowl of the (now gone) soup. Dinner is going to be pimiento cheese (real cheese!) and crackers and olives though. I’m not in the mood for soup, but I’ll be able to eat it all week for lunch.
Congrats on making it through day 1 of not working, FCM.
Gotta agree that most of my retired friends are busier than I am. And I’ll be happy to join them because they’re doing things like volunteering in cool places, participating in ElderHostel (which has been renamed to something I can’t remember but is more age-inclusive), doing fun short-term jobs, generally traveling and having fun.
Yay for your found wallet, Spaz. Even though you found it after you canceled the card, it always feels better to know exactly where it was, I think.
Glad you’re feeling better, SCL.
Made it through Monday, although it doesn’t feel like I got much done. Had too many meetings for that.
We are having garlic bread for dinner. Because we can.
MMOOMMM-I get tired just reading about all the things you do. Do you ever just be lazy?
Swampy you are so kind to let friends stay over especially as hot as it is and volunteering **OYKW’s **freezer too. Good friend you are.
Yay for found wallet. You did say you’d lost 50 lbs so a new picture was in order. Funny how things like that just work out.
Day from Hell what with the first on a Monday:eek: First is always so busy anyway and Monday’s are just Monday’s.
Hubby is out of town off to JAX to get a second opinion on A fib at the Mayo Clinic. Keep good thoughts coming please.
Dog kept me up almost all night. I don’t know if he is in pain so I stopped by the Vet on the way to irk thinking it might be anal glands but that was not it. Then I remembered hubby had drug suitcase out so maybe he was worried I was going to leave. He has become so attached to me. Vet said to see how it goes tonight and if no better drop him off in the morn and he’ll do blood, urine, etc.
I had a small poke tenderloin that I needed to cook so I put it into slow pot which is not slow with some soy sauce and whole berry cranberry sauce. It’s a recipe I read over in Cafe Society. We shall see.
I hope I get some sleep tonight.
**Mooommm…**Hard to think about getting furnace tuned up with it being so hot huh?
All eyes on Tropical Storm Emily. One of the models bring it right across where I live so we will see. Need some more rain though.
