I need a torso and head all in one piece (or fitted together). Must be used and can even be slightly damaged. No arms needed; in fact, this is preferrred.
When we got rid of “Ken” (a mannequin my husband has – I don’t know the whole story on it) we took him to Goodwill. As much as I loved setting him behind the bushes in full cloak on Halloween, my husband saw this as “sick, demented and twisted” and decided it was time for “Ken” to go. You might check there or other local thrift shops.
If you happen to see any “all fixtures must go” signs at stores that are closing, that might be a good place to stop.
Yes. It’s cruel to let mannequins that have been kept in captivity for years dire ctly into the wild. They don’t know how to cope with surviving in the outside world, and they usually end up dismembered, or on display in compromising positions in frat houses.
It’s much kinder to take them to a familiar environment like a store, where they’ll be cared for and displayed by those familiar with them.
I second eBay. A friend of mine has gotten some mannequins there. I’ve gotten mannequins at a formal wear store that was going out of business. But, that strikes me as harder to find and you seem to be in a hurry.
Please post pictures of your finished project. I, for one, would love to see just what you have planned for your armless statue.
I may be thinking of another doper, but don’t you live in Calgary? The downtown Sears store is closing this month, maybe they’ll have a mannequin or two to get rid of?
There are also a couple other variations of making these on the site, you just have to search a little. These were the first two that came up when I searched for “dummy”.
