In my office i have a couple of cheap wooden bookshelves. They are the type with adjustable shelving, where there are a bunch of holes down either side of the bookshelf, and you put little holder things in the holes and place the shelves on the holders.
Well, i’m short about three of the little holder things, and i was wondering if anyone knows where i might get some? I’ve Googled, but so far to no avail.
Different types of shelving have different types of holders; mine appear to be made of brass or some other alloy. Here is a close-up picture i took of the piece in question.
I’m sure these are available somewhere, and would be very cheap; it’s just a matter of finding them. If anyone could point me in the right direction, i’d be most grateful.
I think I’ve seen them and similar pieces in the hardware aisle at Lowes or Home Despot. Check the slide out drawers under cabinet hardware. If you can’t find them there, email me, as I know I can obtain them from hardware wholesalers. You might have to buy a minimum quantity of 25.
Home Depot or Lowes. They are in the hardware isle. At HD they can be found on the bottom shelf of the bay with the specialty locks and hardware. There are two standard sizes. Don’t be surprised if you ask an associate and they give you a blank stare, thats normal.
Be sure to bring a sample with you as there are a multitude of sizes and styles for these things.
If you only need three, head over to your nearby “little guys” hardware store. The ACE by my office sells these individually, so you don’t have to be stuck with buying two dozen.
Here is a link to an online site that sells them. Or at the very least, you can print out the picture to show the folks at the box store what you’re looking for.
At Home Depot, they should be in the shelving aisle, near the Rubbermaid products. If every store had the exact same dimensions and aisle number, then they would be in aisle six, half way down on the right, 3 bays up from the floor.
Just a caution. You want pieces that will fight tightly in to holes. If they are at all loose you are only asking for trouble. That’s why you should take a sample with you and match it. Pay attention to the tolerances.
Those things are pretty common. Any decent hardware store should have them, not just the big box stores.
To reiterate, check the sizes. Some shelves use metric and other use fractions and even though they are similar using the wrong ones will be either tight or loose.
