I have an image which I would like the background color changed on. I tried to use Paint-dot-net but could not achieve what I wanted. I think it needs Photoshop to get it done right. Problem is, I do not have the software or the skills. It’s a really small job and so I would expect someone to just help me out, or I can pay a small fee.
I took some head shots of my wife for a website. She liked one, but thought that her top was too distracting (it was a brilliant fuchsia.) I said “what color would you like it to be?”
She suggested blue, and I came back a few minutes later with a blue version. She was amazed - it looked completely real, including all the subtle shadows and folds. Fortunately, there wasn’t any reflected light on her face, which would have been hard to fix.
Just thinking out loud here: the worst case scenario for changing a background would be if you have anything transparent in the foreground that needs to be dealt with. (This can include stray hairs) Otherwise, the worst is having to manually cut the foreground out from the background, rather than being able to use tools that make that easier. This would mostly only be an issue if the background and foreground colors are similar. Once the background is isolated from the foreground, changing the color is generally quite easy. Worst case would be removing some sort of pattern while preserving shadows, but even that’s not too bad.
So that should give you an idea of how much work it would actually be, depending on your image.
Yeah, post a link to the photo. I have Photoshop, and a modicum of skills. If there is nothing difficult like flyaway stray hairs, it might be doable with a couple of keystrokes.
OK, I am posting the image here. Let me know what you guys think!
I want the pink background replaced with a dark blue (indicating dusk) and black (indicating night). (I want two images, one with dark blue and one with a black sky.) Some kind folks here who already tried to help me so far have stated this is not as simple as it sounds, so I am keeping fingers crossed. Take a stab at it if you can. Thanks!
BigT - some folks who tried to help me have told me the background color is non-uniform and so is difficult to change. Besides there are patches of sky peeping out from breaks in the tree canopy; I am not sure how difficult that is to change.
Nah, that’s not the difficult part. You select all of it and change the hue, saturation, and brightness, rather than actually try to change the color directly.
Actually selecting the background may be more challenging than usual, especially given the JPEG artifacts in the image. But I’ll give it a quick go. Though I will first see if there’s a higher quality version of the image I can use by using an Internet search.
Though, yes, it won’t be a full recolor. It will be what you asked for, changing the background color.
Ugh. I broke the glow around the person in mine and left out bits. And if I went back and fixed it, it wouldn’t look better than what @GuanoLad did. So no point in continuing.
If you did want some additional recoloring, you could darken the night image and add a bit of a blue transparent layer over the dusk one. Though make sure the person isn’t covered, since they have a glow.
Yes, a colour cast like that would make sense, I considered that too. But I wasn’t sure if “making sense” was required. It’s a somewhat stylised image as it is.
@GuanoLad - thanks! The images look pretty good. The night sky background looks perfect! The other one - with the blue background - could I ask you to retouch some of the remaining pink near the tree, and over the water? If you have time and are willing, of course. It looks great too, just a little bit would make it even better.
