Where can you buy used CDs in bulk and save on shipping

Bulk = 5-30 or so at a time.

I am getting into new genres of music, and several of the CDs I am wanting to buy are available used for about $1 on half.com and amazon. The problem is even if you buy them all from the same seller you have to pay S&H on each individual purchase, so buying 10 CDs from the same seller can cost $10 for the CDs and $20 to ship them, which is a waste.

So where can a person buy used CDs and get realistic charges for shipping? Shipping 20 used CDs does not cost $30-40, it costs about $10 if that.

The only thing I can think of is ebay. Buy a wholesale lot, try to resell the ones I don’t want and keep the ones I do. Are there other places, especially places where I can pick used Cds for about $1 each out of a large selection (rather than buy a wholesale lot like on ebay where I can’t pick the titles)?

Websites like secondspin or wherehouse charge far far more than amazon & half.com are charging for used CDs. Spun.com seems halfway decent though.

I could try garage sales, but doubt I’d find what I’m looking for.

Is there a website like goozex for music CDs, where the seller pays shipping costs?

On Amazon you can contact the seller. Also Amazon sellers often have online websites of their own. Usually the CD is a bit more but they let you combine shipping there. So you save a wee bit.

Other than that you may have to try used CD stores in your city. Chicago’s Reckless is pretty good and they sell online

Here’s an option for you: try SwapaCD.com. It’s a CD exchange site, but you don’t really have to send any out, you can just ‘receive’.

I’ve received maybe 15 or so since I joined and have mailed out just one. The end cost is around $3 a CD (the shipper pays the postage).

The only downside is the (sometimes very) limited selection.

SecondSpin.com is the first thing I thought of, but you’re right, their prices are usually significantly higher than what you can find on Amazon. Between that and the fact that they put big, orange, hard-to-peel-off “USED” stickers on their CD cases, I’ve pretty much given up on them. But in rare instances (like if you’re buying several cheap discs at the same time, and they have one of their promotions going) you can save money ordering from them.

Can’t you swap the old case for a new one?

Just to bring a dead thread back to life, but I found a seller on ebay named calicovalley who has thousands of CDs and offers bulk shipping, and his CDs are reasonably priced.

Problem is he doesn’t have what I want. I am wanting to load up on 80s rap/r&b and some independent punk, and the selection isn’t too good in those areas.

But that is one of the few sellers I’ve seen who aren’t charging insane shipping costs to buy CDs in bulk.
I’m looking into swapacd more though, seems like they actually have a good selection of what I want. I know sites like that have worked really well for me for video games (I use goozex).

I’m still using SwapaCD. Overall, it’s been a positive experience. I’ve had 1 or 2 (out of maybe 30-40) that came in broken, but you notify the site and they credit you immediately.

Only downsides: Limited selection, sometimes a very long wait.

Bottom line: It’s good to fill a bunch of holes in your collection cheaply. I Just received George Harrison’s “Brainwashed” today in a digipak in excellent condition.
