I’d like to get some nitrocellulose lacquer, Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep paint code PCN (‘Deep Amethyst Pearl’).
First question: Where can I have some mixed? Would an auto body shop be able to mix nitro? Or would I have to go to a paint store?
Second question: If I walked into a paint store and asked for code PCN, would they know what I was talking about?
You’re probably better off going to an auto body supply shop. I thought a lot of those formulations were phased out owing to VOC restrictions.
I think the paint on the Jeep is acrylic lacquer; but I want to paint wood and nitro is traditional.
Tried here?
They have a forum in there somewhere, you could ask about that particular color.

That’s what I was thinking of-it took me a while to find some acrylic lacquer for my 85 Ford, and the shop which mixed it for me said to not figure on finding it in a few more years.
Yep. Got a reply from Bill. He said they don’t do the colour and doesn’t know where I’d go to get it.
It’s available in acrylic, although only in one-ounce bottles. I know the code is ‘PCN’.
Well, the bad news is that I can’t seem to find any local business that can mix nitrocellulose lacquer – or even get it. The good news is that Stuart MacDonald’s has it. The bad news is that it’s clear. They do have pigments, but I have no idea which ones to use (other than red and blue) or in what proportions to come up with Deep Amethyst – and I don’t see anything to make it ‘Pearl’.
