So in my latest entrepreneur phase I find myself in need of an artist who can draw comic book-esque art, I don’t need a lot, I only need one piece to use for the logo and possibly in print (one day). So where do I go looking to hire someone for this? I suppose I could use craigslist, but I figure there must be somewhere more specialized than that.
I think craigslist would be fine for a one-off job like that; just make sure you post it in the right place (like here).
Or try places that artists go to online:
cgSociety
cgChannel
HighEnd3D
or
Comic Book Resources
The net is usually good for that.
You don’t need someone in your town, however. Because you will need the artwork in a digital format for printing, it can usually be emailed to you.
Be sure to see a portfolio.
Art college are great places to go. The students are often extremely talented, and are often on the lookout for opportunities to gain exposure for their work, and to make some extra money.
I do some teaching here, which is the oldest accredited art college in the United States, and is, i believe, still considered to be one of the country’s better art colleges.
The work produced by some of the students is amazing. There is a graphic design major, and it attracts some of the most talented students.
(Don’t ask me who they got to design the website, though. It has to be one of the worst college/university websites i’ve ever seen.)
Deviantart.com has a pretty large number of artists that cover a variety of art styles, and many of them are open to commissions.
Wow, I though my college had a bad site.
digitalwebbing.com, in the aritst for hire section.
